NORWELL, MASSACHUSETTS 02061 ANNOUNCEMENT OF EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITYPOSITION: Special Education Teacher, Short-Term Substitute (March June), Elementary Level GENERAL DUTIES: To develop, implement and monitor the effectiveness of individualized learning programs for students who have been found eligible for Special Education and/or related services; evaluate students as needed for the purpose of eligibility determination; and work with school faculty to develop inclusive programs and practices.REPORTS TO: Building Principal and Director of Student ServicesQUALIFICATIONS: 1.Hold or be eligible for Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Certification as Special Education Teacher required; 2.A Bachelors degree or higher with Special Education major required; Masters degree in Special Education or related field preferred; 3.Successful teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level; 4.Coursework and/or experience in Language Based methodologies and Specialized Reading instruction; and5.Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work, educational experience, school-level involvement and/or system-wide professional activities, and the interview process.RESPONSIBILITIE1.Provide consultation to general education teachers in modifications of the general education curriculum to improve access and achievement of students with diverse learning styles or ability levels;2.Develop Individualized Education Plans in accordance with state regulations and district procedures;3.Provide specialized instruction for students on caseload using research-based approaches within the general education classroom and the learning center;4.Remain current with laws and regulations regarding students with disabilities;5.Comply with all procedural requirements of Special Education law and regulations;6.Conduct appropriate assessments of students with disabilities and students suspected of presenting with disabilities;7.Enhance the effort toward the full inclusion of students with disabilities in the general education environment;8.Have experience working with students with autism and develop behavior plans for home and school;9.Work with colleagues in a collaborative manner;10.Work cooperatively and proactively with parents;11.Screen/identify students requiring further evaluation;12.Consult with classroom teachers on strategies and approaches for integration into regular classroom;13.Provide parents with strategies and suggestions for home reinforcement;14.Conduct visits and develop home programs for students as needed;15.Supervise designated support staff and plan for their work with students;16.Engage in professional development opportunities designed to cast teacher as learner and in so doing to develop an awareness of and comfort with a variety of instructional approaches to teaching;17.Participate in curriculum planning and other building and department activities within the school and the district;18.Maintain copies of student records;19.Become informed about the parameters and expectations of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and assume responsibility for re-certification procedures; and 20.Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools or designee.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT AND EVALUATION: In accordance with School Committee policy and the collective bargaining agreement.APPLICATION PROCESS: An informative letter of interest, resume, completed application form, proof of current certification or certifiability, undergraduate and graduate transcripts, and at least three (3) current letters of reference must be received.
