Job Overview:
Libertas Academy’s Dean of Academics (STEM) Fellow is a key member of the academy leadership team, reporting directly to the academy Vice principal. This emerging leader is a developing instructional leader who supports the school’s academic vision while building the knowledge and skills necessary to become a future Dean of Academics. This fellowship-style position is designed for educators with strong classroom experience and a passion for coaching, curriculum development, and data-driven instruction who are ready to take the next step into school leadership. The emerging Dean will build their capacity as a LACS leader through teaching a core STEM content (Math and/or Science) , supporting teacher coaching, data analysis, curriculum planning, and professional development; learning the core competencies of academic leadership through hands-on practice, observation, and reflection
Classroom Instruction & Coaching
- Plan and lead effective classroom instruction
- Model effective teaching practices and help design exemplar lessons or instructional resources.
- Conduct classroom walkthroughs and assist with observation feedback cycles alongside the Dean of Academics and/or Vice Principal.
- Support teachers in implementing rigorous, standards-aligned instruction and effective classroom management.
- Help analyze assessment data to identify trends, instructional gaps, and opportunities for targeted support.
- Co-plan and occasionally facilitate professional development sessions for teachers and fellows.
- Participate in student data analysis meetings; help teachers use data to adjust instruction and intervention plans.
- Track and report on academic performance trends across content areas.
- Support the creation of data tools or trackers that drive instructional decisions.
Curriculum & Assessment
- Support curriculum alignment, pacing, and lesson planning across grade levels or content areas.
- Assist in coordinating benchmark and interim assessments; organize logistics, data collection, and analysis.
- Help review lesson plans and provide constructive feedback to ensure rigor and alignment with school standards.
- Collaboration with content leads to identify instructional materials and strategies that support diverse learners.
Leadership
- Serve as an active member of the school leadership team; participating in all leadership team meetings to learn systems for evaluation, coaching, and instructional planning.
- Work with teachers, and support staff to provide mentoring, classroom support, and professional guidance.
- Support in the the tracking of teacher data
- Supports with ongoing teacher evaluations and observations
- Contribute to building a culture of adult learning through collaboration, peer feedback, and shared reflection.
- Promote a culture of academic excellence, high expectations, and joy in learning.
- Collaborate with the Deans of Culture and Student Support teams to ensure alignment between academics and school culture.
- Build relationships with students, families, and staff that foster trust, communication, and collective accountability.
- Participate actively in school events, community engagement, and family communication.
- Collaborates with academic and student services departments in order to contribute to the efforts in educating, an educational climate supportive of the LACS mission and values.
- Fosters an environment that encourages sensible conduct choices, and personal and educational choices that align with the school values
- Indirectly leads across departments to push and delegate others to support the vision of academic initiatives
- Model Libertas Academy’s professional and values at all times; be a visible and highly engaged leader in the school community.
- Do whatever it takes to ensure that the mission of the school is fulfilled
Desired Skills, Qualification and Characteristics:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in Education, Leadership, or Curriculum & Instruction preferred.
- 3-5 years of full-time years of successful teaching experience with demonstrated student achievement results.
- Track record of progressively increasing responsibilities demonstrating integrative leadership for academics, or management level administration
- Demonstrated leadership potential and interest in instructional coaching or school leadership.
- Strong data analysis skills and comfort using data to inform instruction.
- Demonstrated passion for and commitment to the Libertas Academy mission
- Experience managing cross-functional teams to develop and implement systems and processes to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of a growing organization
- Willingness to lead up and work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of senior staff, as needed
- Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
- Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions
- Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems
- Personal qualities of maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and a “roll-up-my-sleeves” attitude
- Growth mindset, eagerness to learn, and openness to feedback.
- Charter school experience preferred, but not required.
