Description of Position

Community Counseling of Bristol County is seeking Bachelor’s level candidates to join our Therapeutic Mentoring program to serve the Taunton/New Bedford area. Therapeutic Mentors provide one to one intervention and therapeutic skill- building to youth, ages 7 to 21, to address daily living, social, communication and emotional regulation skills challenges. TM’s will meet with the youth in the community to support and coach the development of self-management, problem-solving, conflict-resolution skills, as well as develop strategies for effective handling of peer interactions. Skill building is provided while engaging youth in a variety of ways, including social, recreational, athletic, artistic, educational and vocational activities.

The Therapeutic Mentoring program at CCBC offers a collaborative team approach that values self-care You will receive trauma-informed individual supervision from a licensed clinician, as well as training on trauma, early childhood mental health, child development and creating skill building interventions specific to the needs of youth.

Responsibilities

• Meet one to one with youth in community settings
• Develop treatment plans in collaboration with the outpatient therapists, Intensive Care Coordinators and/or In-Home Therapists
• Support the youth in developing goals in identified skill building areas
• Consult with schools, outpatient providers and psychiatric providers to support the youth’s ongoing treatment needs
• Identify community supports and activities to engage youth in skill building goals
• Provide flexibility and creativity in engaging youth of varying developmental levels
• Meet all documentation requirements of the agency and TM program specifications

Qualifications and Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or a related field
• One year of experience working with children and families; volunteer and internship experience will be considered
• A valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Must possess good organizational skills, as well as effective verbal, written and computer skills.
• Proficiency with computers including ability to use or learn to use an electronic health record system, audio-visual communication technology
