Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and mission-driven Fundraising Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will serve as the financial backbone of our development function — ensuring that all gift revenue, restricted fund activity, and donor-related transactions are recorded accurately, compliantly, and transparently. This role is responsible for accurately recording and reconciling donations, pledges, and event revenue; ensuring compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards; and maintaining strong internal controls. The Fundraising Accountant works closely with the Development team to ensure proper stewardship, reporting, and tracking of donor funds while supporting overall organizational financial integrity.
Role & Responsibilities:
- Deposit daily into the proper bank accounts all checks received daily, including Donations, Accounts Receivable and Miscellaneous items
- Accurately record all donations (online, checks, ACH, events, pledges) in the accounting system.
- Prepare and post journal entries related to fundraising revenue.
- Record, reconcile, and report all fundraising revenue including individual gifts, major gifts, grants, corporate partnerships, special events, and planned giving contributions.
- Manage restricted and unrestricted fund accounting, ensuring donor intent is honored and expenditures align with grant terms and gift agreements.
- Reconcile the fundraising CRM database (e.g., Salesforce) with the general ledger on a monthly basis, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Track and manage pledges receivable, following up on overdue commitments and maintaining accurate aging schedules.
- Track grant awards and ensure revenue recognition aligns with donor restrictions and accounting standards.
- Assist in preparing financial reports for grantors and major donors.
- Maintain and improve internal controls around gift processing, ensuring appropriate segregation of duties and documentation standards.
- Reconcile event revenue and expenses.
- Track sponsorship payments and in-kind contributions.
- Assist in preparing monthly fundraising revenue reports.
- Maintain documentation to ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting standards.
- Provide audit support and documentation as needed.
- Collaborate with Development team to resolve discrepancies in donor records.
- Maintain confidentiality and integrity of donor financial information.
- Prepare as needed monthly journal entries and any additional account reconciliations related to these journal entries.
- Track and process Insurance claims.
- Assist as needed in other Accounts/Receivable tasks.
- Cross train in various tasks of the other Accounting Associate.
- Support the Controller in the absence of the Director of Accounting.
- Assist in other GBFB responsibilities as assigned by Management.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Associate degree required.
- 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Previous experience with cloud-based accounting system as well as fundraising CRM platforms.
- Digital competency, including demonstrating proficiency in Microsoft Office platforms (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Knowledge of grant and restricted revenue compliance
- Familiarity with planned giving vehicles (bequests, charitable trusts, annuities, etc.)
- Prior A/R experience required with an emphasis on fundraising.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must be detailed oriented.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
- Be able to build and foster relationships across business functions.
- Must be a flexible team player. Demonstrates the required digital competencies that result in the effective usage of the full range of digital technologies at GBFB.

Work Environment:
- This role follows a hybrid schedule working in accordance with GBFB’s hybrid work policy on the team’s designated days. This schedule is subject to change based on the organization’s mission to end hunger.
