ABOUT THE Critical Care/Cardiac Care Unit DEPARTMENT AT BOSTON MEDICAL CENTER:
The Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) is an 8 bed unit that provides critical care nursing to complex cardiology patients. The types of patients that are frequently admitted include STEMIs, cardiogenic shock, cardiomyopathy, heart failure, TAVRS (trans femoral aortic valve replacements) and patients with dysrhythmias.POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Patient Care Technician in our Critical Care department, you will be a key member of the healthcare team at BMC. Under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse (RN) and in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of practice, our Patient Care Technicians provide direct clinical and support services. Using our patient-centered care model and uplifted by a supportive nursing organization, you will participate in the delivery of care to our patients and their families. You will also work cooperatively with all healthcare team members to provide a variety of support services to meet patient, family, and staff needs.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform a variety of appropriately delegated patient care interventions for patients in the Critical Care department and their families.
Clinical services could include, but are not limited to: obtaining vital signs, bathing and feeding, dressing wounds, assisting with hygiene, cleaning rooms and linens, and emotional support.
Perform a variety of environmental and inventory activities to ensure a safe, clean, and appropriately equipped environment for patients, visitors, and staff in the Critical Care dept.
Contribute to the efficient operation of the Critical Care dept, ensuring quality patient/family clinical outcomes.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
A high school diploma or GED certificate
Certification in basic life support (BLS), including CPR certification (must be current or obtained within 30 days of employment)
Ability to pass clinical competency testing
Physical ability to meet job responsibilities
Basic math and computer proficiency
One of the following:
One year of previous experience as a Patient Care Technician in an acute hospital setting
Currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed two cycles of clinical rotation
Completed an approved Patient Care Technician training
Completed an approved certified medical assistant training
One year of previous experience as an EMT or field medic (considered for adult ED positions only)
Fluency in another language a plus
Previous medical/surgical experience preferred
