Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Music Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in music education and a commitment to fostering a love of music in students aged 18 months to 12 years old. This role involves teaching various music concepts, instruments, and performance techniques, while also integrating other artistic disciplines such as theater and dance. The Music Teacher will create an engaging learning environment that encourages creativity and self-expression. The Music Teacher position is approximately 8.5 hours a week.

In addition, because we wish to integrate employees fully into the Summit community, we have additional hours available in our AfterCare program to supplement the Music Teacher position. These amount to approximately 9 additional hours a week.

Music Teacher Responsibilities

  • Create and implement lesson plans that align with the developmental characteristics of students aged 18 months to 12 years old.
  • Foster a love of music and introduce basic theory and musical concepts through movement, games, singing and instruments
  • Teach music theory, instrument proficiency, vocal techniques, and performance skills.
  • Organize and conduct individual and group lessons for students of varying skill levels.
  • Prepare students for performances.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to enhance their musical abilities.
  • Maintain a positive classroom environment that fosters an enthusiasm for learning.

Aftercare Teacher Responsibilities

  • Supervise children during after-school hours, ensuring a safe and supportive environment
  • Plan and facilitate engaging indoor and outdoor activities
  • Reinforce classroom expectations, ground rules, and respectful behavior
  • Guide and support children in conflict resolution using positive communication strategies
  • Foster a calm, inclusive, and positive atmosphere in the Aftercare Program
  • Collaborate effectively with faculty and staff throughout the school day

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience in a Montessori program is highly preferred, but not required.
  • Experience in teaching music to children required.
  • Proficiency in one or more musical instruments or vocal performance.
  • Familiarity with various teaching methods including special education strategies is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to inspire students of all backgrounds.
