Teaching Associate (Postgraduate), Department of Anthropology The Department of Anthropology in the College of Arts & Sciences at Boston University invites applications for a full-time, nine-month Teaching Associate (Postgraduate) position. This position provides instructional support for undergraduate courses in Biological Anthropology through teaching laboratory and discussion sections, grading student work, mentoring students, and assisting with course administration. The Teaching Associate also serves as a resource and mentor for graduate student Teaching Fellows to promote effective teaching practices and consistency across course sections. This is a benefits-eligible, nine-month appointment. The successful candidate will typically teach the equivalent of five to six laboratory or discussion sections per semester. Renewal for an additional year may be considered based on departmental instructional needs, enrollment, and available funding.

Responsibilities include:
- Lead and facilitate up to six undergraduate laboratory and/or discussion sections per semester (or equivalent), including preparing instructional materials, coordinating laboratory activities, and working closely with course instructors.
- Assist faculty with grading examinations, quizzes, laboratory assignments, papers, and other coursework.
- Attend lectures for supported courses to ensure alignment between lecture and laboratory or discussion content.
- Coordinate weekly laboratory and discussion activities and provide guidance and mentorship to graduate student Teaching Fellows to ensure consistency across course sections.
- Hold regular office hours to support student learning and academic success.
- Mentor undergraduate students engaged in laboratory research and independent research projects, providing instruction in laboratory methods, research techniques, scientific writing, and data interpretation.
- Perform other instructional and administrative duties consistent with the scope of the position as assigned.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Biological Anthropology or a closely related field.
- One to three years of relevant teaching, laboratory, or research experience.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex scientific concepts effectively to undergraduate students.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with faculty, graduate teaching fellows, and undergraduate students in a collaborative academic environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology or a closely related field.
- Prior experience teaching undergraduate laboratory or discussion sections.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate researchers and supervising laboratory activities.
