Salary: $110,000 to $130,000, depending on experience and qualifications
Small national non-profit aptitude testing and career counseling organization seeksexperienced Director of Finance to be responsible for financial operations. Nonprofitexperience is crucial.
The ideal candidate will have experience with:
- Defined benefit and supplementary 403(b) pension plans
- Government employment and tax regulations
- Financial controls and interaction with outside auditors
- Managing investment funds, in conjunction with financial planners
- Health benefit plan with HSA
- 990, 5500, 3-ABC and other forms
- Reviewing office leases, basic human resources policies, and other business matters
The Director ofFinanceis responsible forsafeguarding and maximizing financial assetsas well as conducting proper GAAP accountingbyestablishing soundfinancial policies, procedures,controlsand reporting systems. This position ensures legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting, financial, and human resourcereporting functionsas well as any other organizational needin this regardasrequired. Theyoversee cost and general accounting, accounts receivable/payable,payroll, audit,budgetand risk management functions.
Theywill manage and oversee the professional development ofdepartmental staff. They will report to the Presidentand work closely with the seniormanagementteam and the Board of Trustees,aswell as with external stakeholders, vendors, and representatives from our finance partner organizations.
An ability to write and organize business data in reports for others is highly desired, asis the ability to articulate financial matters precisely to non-financial co-workers.
Essential Functions
- Guides financial decisions byestablishing,monitoringand enforcing policies and procedures.
- Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Protects assets byestablishing,monitoringand enforcing internal controls.
- Maximizes return on investments byconferring with finance partners.
- Providesstatus of financial condition of the company by collecting,interpretingand reporting key financial dataon a routine basisto the senior executive team and the board of trustees.
- Ensures compliance with federal,stateand local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outsideadvisors, and filing requiredreportsfor both financial and human resource functions.Advisessenior executive teamof actions and potential risks.
- Oversees the annual audit and communicates with auditors to ensuretimelyaudited financials.
- Managesthe annualbudgetprocessin coordination withthe senior executive teamand department leaders
- Hires, trains,developsand appraises staff effectively. Takes corrective action as necessary ona timelybasis andin accordance withcompany policy.
- Keepsup-to-dateon information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position isdirectly responsiblefor leadingthe Senior Accountant and the Payroll and A/P Administratorin the Finance department.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in a business, financial or related field or equivalent work experience.
- 5or more years ofsenior levelexperience in managingthe finance department of a small to medium-sized organization
Preferred Education and Experience
- Masters degree in a business, financial or related field or equivalent work experience.
- 10or more years ofsenior levelexperience in managingthe finance departmentin asmall tomedium-sizeorganization with non-profit exposure.
Salary Range
$110,000 - $130,000, depending on experience and qualifications
Physical Setting
We are located in Bostons Back Bay, in an historic brownstone, seven blocksfrom Copley Square. There are no long hours in tax season or atany time. This is a hybrid position which will require some days in the office, with the opportunity to work remotely. This is negotiable with the right candidate.
