Position Overview

The Technical Operations Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating all aspects of production operations, including engineering, equipment maintenance, process optimization, and personnel management. This role ensures that manufacturing processes run reliably, efficiently, and safely while meeting quality and delivery targets. The ideal candidate brings a strong technical background, plant infrastructure knowledge, leadership skills, and a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities

Typical activities include:

  • Oversee daily production operations, ensuring alignment with safety, quality, and productivity goals.
  • Manages and Leads supervision to ensure employees are trained and knowledgeable for their job function.
  • Lead cross-functional teams including production supervisors, engineers, and maintenance personnel.
  • Drive process improvements through Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Collaborate with engineering to implement new technologies, equipment upgrades, and process changes.
  • Manage or ensure equipment reliability programs and coordinate preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Monitor KPIs and operational metrics to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and capital projects.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 7+ years of experience in manufacturing or technical operations, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing systems, automation, and industrial equipment.
  • Proven experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and production planning tools.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in Chemical related processes and production
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and quality management systems.
  • 6 Sigma Black Belt trained.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to see and respond to at-risk situations.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear when in industrial locations.
  • Must be able sit for longer periods of time as well as move about throughout the office and production, / laboratory environment.
