Construction Project Cost Accountant (Sage 300 CRE)
Step into the numbers behind every build
Under the direction of the Vice President of Finance, you will be the financial backbone for active construction projects, guiding job cost accounting, contract and billing workflows, compliance, and documentation. You will collaborate closely with field and office teams to deliver precise forecasts and keep projects financially on track. Mastery of Sage 300 Construction & Real Estate (Sage 300 CRE) is essential, and you’ll oversee project documentation and process flows within Procore.
A week in the role
- Launch new projects in Sage 300 CRE: set budgets, cost codes, commitments, and forecasting structures.
- Publish monthly job cost reports, then sit down with Project Managers to analyze variances and refine their monthly Projection of Profit and Loss.
- Track committed costs, subcontractor/vendor spend, and cost-to-complete to keep stakeholders informed.
- Monitor retention and project cash flow; highlight trends and patterns for leadership consideration.
- Prepare accruals and reconciliations for month-end close with complete project documentation.
- Build and submit invoices in Sage (AIA G702/G703, cost-plus/T&M), validate schedules of values and approved change orders, and align billing rates.
- Coordinate percent-complete billing and projected revenue with project teams; drive timely submission and collections alongside PMs.
- Enforce subcontractor compliance using myCOI; maintain vendor records across Sage, myCOI, and Procore; keep compliance dashboards current.
- Review vendor invoices and subcontractor pay applications for accuracy and coding; confirm all payment prerequisites.
- Provide guidance and oversight across payroll and accounts payable; manage inter-company billables and payables.
Reporting, controls, and partnership
- Prepare financial, contract status, compliance, and job cost reports for management review.
- Support internal and external audits with detailed, organized documentation.
- Maintain strong internal controls and uphold company policies.
- Assist the Vice President of Finance in maintaining journals, ledgers, and accounts; perform periodic reconciliations to ensure GAAP accuracy and compliance with established processes.
- Contribute to monthly and quarterly financial statements, the annual budget, external audits, tax filings (including 1099s), fixed asset tracking, monthly reconciliations, required journal entries, and ad-hoc reporting and analysis for departments or Corporate.

- Support operations with performance reporting and insights.
What you bring
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or related field (preferred).
- 3–7 years in construction accounting or contract administration.
- Sage 300 CRE expertise (required); Procore experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with system migration/implementation is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong grounding in construction accounting, contract structures, and AIA billing.
- Contract review skills with a focus on risk identification and compliance.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and a strong general tech aptitude.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving.
- Clear communicator and collaborator across departments; strong team orientation.
- Able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment.
- Trusted with confidential information and handles it with discretion.
