RN Advisor
This RN Advisor role will be a joint position working between the Advisor’s current clinical department and reporting half-time to the Director of Nursing, supporting the Nurse Education Pipeline program run out of the Education and Training Department. The position will include 2 days a week of program support time and 3 days a week of clinical department hours in the Advisor’s current department.
The RN Advisor will help guide, mentor, and advise employees participating in ETI’s Nurse Education Pipeline program as they identify and apply to nursing programs at colleges or universities of their choice. They will also help tutor and support the overall educational development of participants. The Advisor will work in partnership, as needed, with the Director of Workforce Development and the current MA III supporting the Medical Assistant Program out of the Education and Training Department to manage logistics and address any student concerns or barriers to learning. Program Responsibilities:- Help identify, screen, and vet potential candidates for the Nurse Education Pipeline Program.
- Create weekly scheduled check-ins (or more often as needed) with participants enrolled in the RN Nursing Education Pipeline Program.
- Coach and mentor with the goal of supporting participants through their respective programs.
- As needed, conduct on-site clinical skill reviews (either at NeighborHealth or at the student’s clinical rotation site).
- May serve as a Preceptor for a program participant’s community health rotation.
RN Scope of Practice:
- Systematically assess the health status of individuals and groups and record the related health data:
- Navigate the electronic medical record
- Collect data on health/symptoms from a patient.
- Analyze and interpret recorded data, and make informed clinical judgments and decisions regarding the specific elements of nursing care mandated by a particular situation:
- Correlate new data and symptoms with the existing medical records
- Determine the appropriate response level within established guidelines.
- Plan and implement nursing intervention, prescribed medical or other therapeutic regimens mandated by the particular situation, scientific principles, recent advancements, and current knowledge in the field:
- Collaborate with the patient’s provider regarding the assessment and plan as indicated. Dispense medications per orders/protocols.
- Report adverse reactions to medication and/or treatments in accordance with policy.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Demonstrates sound clinical judgment/decision making when triaging patients.
- Manages medication refills with appropriate authorization by the provider.
- Provides thorough and concise documentation of patients’ histories, assessments, plans, and treatments. Enters messages as staff messages or telephone encounters on the computer. Enters and views patient letters in the computer. Enter exam encounters on the computer.
- Consistently participates in the activities in the transition of care, recalls, high-risk management, in-basket management, and vaccines.
- Follows protocols for management of patients with chronic/acute conditions and transitions of care.
- Accepts constructive feedback and incorporates it into a plan for professional growth and development.
- Recognizes and meets the safety needs of the departmental patient population.
Supervisory Responsibility:
- While the RN Advisor does not have supervisory responsibilities, they will participate in the screening and interviewing of applicants and recommend program participants. They will also provide feedback for performance evaluations as needed.
EDUCATION:
- Graduate of an Accredited Nursing Program. Bachelor’s Required.
- Licensure in Massachusetts as an RN.
- BLS certification required.
- Bilingual skills are preferred but not required.
EXPERIENCE:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in a community health and/or ambulatory care setting preferred.
