Precision Machining Department Leader

Do you orchestrate multi-shift CNC shops, balance throughput and quality, and inspire teams to get better every day? Our Turners Falls client is seeking a department leader to own CNC operations—people, machines, and processes—while cultivating safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Your impact

• Direct day-to-day CNC activities, including setup readiness and changeovers.
• Partner with engineering, maintenance, and planning to keep work moving on time.
• Hold the line on quality: ensure products meet specifications and safety standards.
• Communicate operational updates to supervisors, team leads, and operators with clarity.
• Launch improvements that cut downtime and raise productivity.
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance to maintain equipment uptime.
• Ensure OSHA compliance and reinforce internal safety protocols.
• Grow talent: provide training, coaching, and pathways for advancement.
• Supervise, train, and evaluate operators across multiple shifts.

What you’ll need to succeed

• 7–10 years running a CNC machine shop, including multi-shift leadership.
• Deep knowledge of CNC programming (G-code/M-code).
• Hands-on background with Swiss turning equipment, milling, and turning centers.
• Strong GD&T and blueprint literacy; expert with micrometers, calipers, and related gauges.
• Proven ability in scheduling, tooling management, and optimizing equipment utilization.
• Track record implementing continuous improvement practices.
• Clear, confident communication; strong collaborator across functions.
• Plus: OSHA 10, forklift certification, or supervisory training.
• HS Diploma or equivalent.
