Remote (must be local to Westwood, MA 02090)

System One is seeking a Project Cost Control Analyst to join our client's Energy & Process Industries group. In this role, you will be the financial anchor for power generation projects. You will be responsible for the end-to-end integrity of the project budget, from the initial baseline through to final closeout. You will work directly with Project Managers and Lead Engineers to ensure that cost variances are identified early, invoices are vetted rigorously, and the project remains financially viable.

Important Details:

  • Pay rate range: $30 - $40/hr. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
  • Start date: As soon as possible
  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday, standard business hours
  • Work location: Remote, must be local to Westwood, MA 02090 to attend meetings in-person when needed
  • Weekly pay
  • Benefits after 30 days (health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, etc.)
  • 401k after 30 days
  • Job offer will be contingent on drug screen and background check

Key Responsibilities

Cost & Budget Management

  • Baseline Establishment: Develop and maintain the Project Cost Baseline and Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in alignment with the project scope.
  • Forecasting: Prepare monthly Estimate at Completion (EAC) and Estimate to Complete (ETC) reports, identifying potential overruns before they impact the bottom line.
  • Variance Analysis: Conduct deep-dive analysis into budget vs. actuals; provide clear, actionable explanations for variances to project leadership.
  • Change Management: Evaluate the cost impact of Change Orders and Trend Notices; ensure all approved changes are accurately reflected in the budget.

Invoice & Expenditure Control

  • Invoice Auditing: Act as the primary gatekeeper for project expenditures. Review and validate all vendor and subcontractor invoices for accuracy, contract compliance, and progress-to-date.
  • Payment Tracking: Coordinate with the Procurement and Accounting departments to track payment cycles and ensure timely cash flow management.
  • Accruals: Manage monthly cost accruals to ensure that financial reporting reflects work performed, regardless of invoice status.

Reporting & Coordination

  • Performance Metrics: Develop and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Earned Value Management (EVM) metrics.
  • Executive Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive monthly cost reports to the Program Manager and the client (Energy Provider).
  • Internal Liaison: Coordinate with the Scheduling team to integrate cost data with the project schedule to produce accurate cash flow projections.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience: A minimum of 5+ years of direct cost control experience within an EPC environment.
  • Industry Knowledge: Proven experience supporting large-scale projects for Energy Providers or Power Generation facilities (Combined Cycle, Nuclear, Renewables, or Coal-to-Gas conversions).
  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or a related technical field.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced mastery of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, complex formulas, and macro-enabled templates).
  • Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as SAP, Oracle, or EcoSys.
  • Familiarity with Primavera P6 data integration is a plus.
Preferred Skills
  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to spot trends in raw data and translate them into "the big picture" for executive stakeholders.
  • Communication: Strong interpersonal skills; able to hold subcontractors accountable for invoicing errors while maintaining professional relationships.
  • Certification: AACE International certification (CCP or PSP) is highly desirable.
  • Contract Literacy: Solid understanding of different contract types (Lump Sum, Time & Materials, Cost Plus) and how they impact cost risk.
