Full Stack Software Engineer II
Full-time
Description
Hybrid (2-5 days/week onsite): Boston, MA Headquarters
Bring your software skills to accelerate hardware innovation.
We are seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer II to join our purpose-driven team and develop the tools that empower LineVision’s hardware engineering team. This role is unique: you will be the primary software resource embedded in a hardware-focused team. While your work centers on enablement through tools and dashboards, you will also shape the team’s software strategy in a servant-leadership capacity, ensuring hardware engineers have what they need to succeed.
If you thrive in autonomy, enjoy cleaning up tech debt, and want your work to have a direct impact on the energy transition, join us at LineVision, Built In Boston and Colorado Best Places to Work!
What will you do?
Core Responsibilities and Key Performance Objectives
- Work on tools and methods to manage a fleet of IOT devices.
- Own the development and improvement of the Hardware team’s internal software tools, including the administrative dashboard, device health dashboard, CICD pipelines, and device logging/monitoring.
- Independently scope, design, and deliver solutions, balancing autonomy with proactive communication to Hardware, Software Platform, and DevOps teams.
- Modernize and maintain legacy codebases, addressing tech debt and preparing for future hardware releases.
- Translate hardware and firmware outputs into intuitive, user-facing dashboards and UIs accessible across the company.
- Apply best practices in code reviews, CI/CD, and secure development to support ISO 27001 readiness.
Within the first 3 months:
- Onboard and learn the Hardware systems, legacy tools, and squad workflows.
- Deliver early improvements to existing dashboards and tools.
- Establish strong working relationships with Hardware, Software Platform, and DevOps.
Within the first 6 months:
- Own the end-to-end development of at least one significant tool (e.g., CICD or monitoring improvements) with minimal oversight.
- Show independence in managing scope, while actively seeking feedback and alignment.
- Deliver UI enhancements for fleet-facing tools.
Within the first year:
- Lead the design and development of a new Device Health Dashboard to provide holistic insights into deployed IoT sensor performance.
- Become the go-to software partner for the Hardware team, anticipating needs and proposing solutions.
- Balance maintenance of legacy tools with development of new capabilities to support future hardware deployments.

Key Competencies
- Ownership & Autonomy – thrives as the sole SWE in the squad, independently delivering impactful tools.
- Service Orientation – motivated by enabling hardware engineers’ success and building software that unlocks their productivity.
