Description:
We are seeking an experiencedSenior Director, Therapeutic Area Strategy to join Marianas Corporate Developmentorganization, advancing personalized medicine and radiopharmaceuticals. This person will be integral to support program and corporate strategy by generating actionable insights from competitive intelligence and new product planning activities. The role serves as a key liaison between Mariana Oncology and Novartis Strategy & Growth teams. The successful candidate provides early-phase commercial insights to project teams, guides therapeutic area-specific internal pipeline development and external licensing / acquisitions opportunities and supports integrated enterprise alignment across Mariana Oncology, A Novartis Company as well as Novartis Biomedical Research, Development, Strategy & Growth, and the US and International Commercial units. The position will be highly collaborative in nature, serving as an integral member of cross-functional program teams to inform product development as well as communications strategy.
Illustrative Breadth of Responsibilities:
- Support program, portfolio and corporate strategy by generating actionable insights from competitive intelligence and new product planning activities
- Lead the development of target product profiles, based on a thorough understanding of market dynamics and potential future trends
- Provide an early and objective view of unmet needs, value proposition, competitive landscape, and market potential for programs and communicate concise summary to executive leadership and cross-functional program teams
- Translate key insights from scientific experts (internal and external) into clear, actionable strategies
- Lead opportunity assessments to inform Business Development, target selection and pipeline investment decisions
- Develop forecasts and market potential assessments
- Analyze reports and publications to extract key messages, including building product forecasts.
- Support development and delivery of TA-specific strategic external insights to support identification of growth opportunities, emerging competitive challenges and support creation of a third-party view around key strategic levers, and commissions targeted primary research.
- Collaborate with Corporate Communications on product opportunity messaging
Requirements/Skills:
- Advanced degree (PhD, MD or other advanced University degree) or equivalent experience in life science/healthcare; MBA or consulting or equivalent experience highly desirable
- In-depth knowledge of Oncology, including multiple tumor types (or track record to acquire required TA expertise effectively and rapidly)
- Experience with RLT or demonstrated ability to learn complex, highly technical areas quickly
- Scientific or clinical background with proven ability to articulate strategy and communicate complex concepts in effective and efficient way
- Substantial experience evaluating new product opportunities (through M&A, BD&L and internal research programs).
- At least 12 years of relevant industry experience strongly preferred
- Experience in Research & Development and/or commercial functions with experience conducting, commissioning, analyzing primary research and developing forecasts
- Experience working in cross-functional setting, partnering with research, clinical development, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, all commercial functions, and business development
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with experience in top-level biotech or pharmaceutical management presentations
- Commitment to maintain data integrity through strict adherence to standardized procedures and relevant compliance requirements
