Senior refrigeration engineer

Location: Woburn, MA
Salary: $130,000.00 USD Annually - $170,000.00 USD Annually
Description: We’re seeking a hands-on Refrigeration Engineer to lead the design and development of refrigeration systems for advanced liquid cooling products. You’ll collaborate with a cross-functional team of mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers to drive the product lifecycle—from concept through production. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is passionate about building high-performance, cost-effective thermal systems.

This job will have the following responsibilities:

• Partner with design teams and customers to define product specifications and evaluate trade-offs across performance, cost, quality, and schedule.

• Design refrigeration systems including component sizing and selection (compressors, evaporators, condensers, expansion devices, fans).

• Develop refrigeration control strategies in collaboration with electrical engineers.

• Create detailed refrigeration schematics and bill of materials (BOMs).

• Lead verification testing: develop test plans, author procedures, and write engineering reports.

• Own the refrigeration subsystem throughout product development, ensuring alignment with cost, performance, and timeline goals.

• Support mechanical layout and integration of refrigeration components and piping.

• Contribute to structural and enclosure design alongside mechanical engineers.

• Drive root cause analysis and resolution for prototype and production-level issues.

• Collaborate with global engineering teams to leverage shared resources and expertise.

• Champion continuous improvement and procedural updates in your domain.

• Provide end-to-end product support—from early concept through production.

• Travel: Minimal (typically <5% annually), with occasional domestic and international trips.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent experience.

• 7+ years of hands-on experience designing refrigeration systems.

• Proficiency with engineering tools:

  • PLM and MRP systems (Oracle Cloud preferred)

  • Sensor integration (temperature, pressure, flow)

• Strong understanding of system-level testing, debugging, and manufacturing best practices.

• Proven ability to work independently, manage priorities, and solve complex technical problems.

• Skilled in risk analysis, trade-off evaluation, and technical decision-making.

• Daily use of Microsoft Office tools.

• Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with environmentally friendly refrigerants (A2Ls, CO₂, propane).

  • Background in mechanical enclosures and sheet metal assemblies.

  • Familiarity with mechanical liquid pumping systems.

  • SolidWorks proficiency.
