Preschool/Toddler Teacher

The Open Center for Children, a year round mixed age preschool in Somerville, is currently seeking a Teacher to join our community. We are a non-profit, two classroom school that practices play-based learning, inspired by many of the great leaders in early education, including Reggio Emilia.

• Low ratios. In our toddler/preschool room we have 3 teachers with 9 children, as well as a morning assistant. In our preschool classroom we have 4 teachers with 20 children with the support of a floating teacher. Small group time is built into every day, giving children and teachers opportunities to work closely together on projects and explorations.
• Supportive environment. We center teacher feedback and priorities, working together to develop areas of growth as a center as well as individuals.
• Out of classroom time. With lower ratios and additional support staff, teachers are able to take out of classroom time for weekly team meetings, writing documentation, planning, sending newsletters, and deepening their professional practice.
• A long history. Open Center was established in 1972. Everywhere you look, it seems there is someone who was once a student, teacher, or past family member in our community. We value our history, and use it to strengthen our future and continuously grow and evolve.

Ideal Candidates

• Hold current EEC certification as a Preschool Teacher and/or Toddler Teacher. Lead Teacher preferred.
• CDA, Associates, Bachelors or higher.
• Has experience with the Reggio Emilia approach, or is highly motivated to learn.
• Are dedicated to progressing in the field, interested in exploring continuing education and professional development.
• Is comfortable working on a large co-teaching team, developing communication and delegation approaches.
• Is familiar with anti-bias and anti-racist curriculum, and is excited to learn more.

Compensation and Benefits

• $23-$25 per hour, depending on certification and experience
