Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our team! You will be responsible for developing and implementing speech/language goals and objectives of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to meet students' needs. The SLP also ensures student progress is evaluated systematically and the findings are used to improve programming. In addition, the SLP is responsible for providing both direct and consultative speech and language services for students. Throughout all programming, the SLP demonstrates an understanding of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and uses ABA-based techniques in service delivery. The SLP acts as a team leader and positive role model for all staff and students.

General Responsibilities:

-Ensures the supervision and safety of assigned students.

-Maintains CALM certification and uses CALM techniques to maintain safety.

-Maintains proper credentials.

-Documents performance feedback as necessary.

-Meets deadlines and ensures SLPAs do the same.

-Completes daily session notes, attendance, and Medicaid sheets according to protocol.

-Attends extra-curricular activities, including events that may be held outside of school hours.

-Assists students with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) including showering and toileting.

-Oversees the organization and the presentation of student speech programming and materials.

-Participates in field trips and community outings (as needed).

-Drives students and staff to various community locations (as needed).

-Participates in swimming activities (as needed).

-Acts as a team leader and positive role model for all staff and students.

-Performs other duties as requested by supervisor(s).

-Helps maintain a well-educated workforce through periodic trainings.

Clinical and Educational Responsibilities:

-Performs speech assessments for students (initial assessments and three-year evaluations).

-Writes initial assessments, three-year evaluations, AAC evaluations, and other reports.

-Uses best practices in speech-language pathology and applied behavior analysis.

-Collaborates with Crossroads staff, consultants, and school districts, and families.

-Plans and implements daily speech programming.

-Develops speech and language goals, objectives, and service delivery.

-Reviews quarterly Progress Reports and makes amendments to IEP when necessary.

-Maintains communication with parents with regard to speech and language programming.

-Coordinates schedule to accommodate Student Days, IEPs, and TEAM meetings.

-Develops schedule to ensure proper implementation of speech service delivery.

-Submits documentation to supervisors in a timely manner.

-Participates in student days, IEP, staff, consistency, analysis, and training meetings.

-Programs student augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems.

-Trains staff and Team members on the proper use and programming of student AAC systems.

-Attends professional conferences authorized by the

Executive Director.

-Continually monitors student progress by analyzing data and making appropriate programmatic changes in a timely fashion.

-Ensures consistency and provides feedback to staff on how speech goals are generalized.

-Assists in the implementation of Functional Communication Training (FCT).

-Oversees Monthly Speech Consistency meetings to ensure student progress and generalization.

-Communicates important information (e.g., lack of progress, family concerns) to the SLSC, EBSC, and CD.

-Communicates with Special Education Teachers and EBSCs regarding general and student specific speech and language needs.

-Communicates with Crossroads' AAC Specialist or District Specialist for AAC Evaluation and/or AAC treatment.

-Assist in the interview process of potential staff as requested.

-Conduct observations/assessments/intakes of potential students as requested.

Supervision Responsibilities:

-Ensures staff adherence to the policies and procedures of the organization.

-Supervises SLPAs in the completion of their responsibilities.

-Assists the SLSC in the supervision of Speech-Language Pathology Assistants (SLPAs).

Attendance, Participation, and Timeliness:

-Attend monthly in-service trainings until 4pm.

-Attend Crossroads events (e.g., Open House, Annual 5K Walk/Run).

Skills and Requirements

-Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.

-Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) for at least 2 years preferred. Those eligible for 9-month Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) in order to earn ASHA certification (CCC) will be considered.

-Current Massachusetts licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.

-Knowledge with experience with ABA-based treatment of autism.

-Demonstrates mastery with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

-After in-house training, must be able to continue to meet criteria for certification in CALM V&P.

Physical Requirements:

-The ability to move quickly and confidently to intervene when protective holds and/or movements are necessary.

-The ability to pursue a bolting student.

-The ability to successfully complete CALM training, which requires:

-Lifting half of body weight

-Pivoting

-Squatting

-Kneeling

-Remaining in kneeling position for an extended time

-Standing from kneeling while supporting student weight without pushing off ground with hands

-Shuffling frontwards and backwards

-Assisting a student to the floor (Only used in the school)

-Stabilizing a student in a standing, seated, prone, or supine position (Only used in the school)
