Operations Engineering Intern

CYVL
Somerville, MA
About Us

Cyvl is a Boston-based tech startup revolutionizing how governments map and manage transportation infrastructure. Our enterprise-grade hardware and software solutions leverage 3D mapping sensors to capture LiDAR, imagery, and GPS data, retrofitted to our customers' vehicles. This data is processed through our AI-powered cloud pipelines to generate actionable geospatial insights that save cities time, money, and resources.

At Cyvl, our mission is to empower governments to build and maintain public infrastructure they’re proud of by accelerating decision-making through our sensors and Infrastructure Intelligence Platform. In this role, you’ll design and enhance the internal software tools that enable our Field Operations team to operate efficiently and at scale. This team oversees sensor repair and upgrades, shipping and logistics, customer support, and fleet deployments, all critical to delivering reliable data to our customers. Your work will help ensure consistent data collection and accelerate the delivery of actionable insights. Ultimately, you’ll play a direct role in helping cities access the information they need to maintain safer, smarter transportation infrastructure.

We’re a fast-moving, high-growth team that believes in solving real-world problems with authenticity, simplicity, and boldness. Every member of our team is empowered to take ownership, deliver results, and leave a lasting impact on the communities we serve.

About You

You’re a curious, proactive problem solver who enjoys working across teams to tackle real-world challenges. You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, learning new systems quickly, and communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical teammates. You take pride in building tools and processes that make others more effective and are motivated by making a tangible impact on safer, smarter transportation infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner cross-functionally with Hardware, Field Operations, Data Operations, and Software Engineering to support and improve day-to-day operational systems
  • Identify, design, and implement automation solutions that streamline internal workflows and reduce manual effort across teams
  • Troubleshoot and resolve software-related issues impacting the sensor fleet and internal tooling, improving reliability and uptime
  • Build tools and workflows to automate customer service processes, increasing response speed and consistency
  • Redesign and automate the multi-step, multi-person shipping process to improve accuracy, visibility, and scalability
  • Develop dashboards or internal reporting tools that provide greater visibility into fleet health, operations performance, and process bottlenecks

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed an undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Familiarity with AI concepts or hands-on experience using AI tools, models, or data-driven systems (academic or project-based experience is acceptable)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate issues and work through ambiguity collaboratively

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure to GIS, geospatial data, mapping tools, or spatial analysis (through coursework, projects, or internships)
  • Experience working with hardware systems, IoT devices, field operations, or operations-focused software tools
