Off Leash Second Chance Rescue is a growing 501(c)(3) dog rescue dedicated to saving dogs from high-kill shelters, providing them with compassionate care, and matching them with loving forever homes. We’re in an exciting phase of expansion and are seeking an experienced professional who has successfully built or managed a thriving rescue organization.

Role Overview

We’re looking for a highly motivated and deeply experienced Rescue Operations Director to help structure, grow, and scale our rescue operations. The ideal candidate has first-hand experience building a rescue from the ground up — from transport logistics and intake coordination to volunteer management and adoption processes.

You’ll play a hands-on role in shaping the rescue’s long-term systems, partnerships, and sustainability model while ensuring daily operations run smoothly and ethically.

Key Responsibilities

• Rescue Growth & Strategy: Build and implement systems to scale rescue operations efficiently and ethically.
• Shelter Networking: Establish and maintain partnerships with high-intake shelters (specifically in California and Southern states) and animal control facilities for regular transport opportunities.
• Transport Coordination: Oversee logistics for safe and compliant dog transport to Massachusetts and other New England states.
• Foster & Volunteer Program: Recruit, train, and manage fosters and volunteers, ensuring smooth communication and placement flow.
• Intake Management: Evaluate dogs for intake suitability and coordinate medical and behavioral care pre-adoption.
• Adoption Pipeline: Implement and oversee efficient adoption process, screening, and follow-up, maintaining high standards for matches.
• Community Relations: Build partnerships with vets, trainers, and donors; help develop community engagement and fundraising initiatives.
• Compliance: Ensure rescue practices align with state/federal transport, adoption, and nonprofit regulations.

Qualifications

• Proven experience founding, directing, or significantly scaling a successful animal rescue organization (required)
• Proven success in building efficient and organized foster and adopter networks
• Strong understanding of shelter systems, animal transport laws, and rescue operations.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and networking skills.
• Proficiency in digital tools for rescue management (Petstablished, Shelterluv, Google Workspace, etc.).
• Passion for animal welfare with a strong sense of ethics and compassion.
• Ability to travel periodically for shelter partnerships and transports (preferred).

Compensation

Commensurate with experience. This role could evolve from a consulting position to a leadership or long-term executive role for the right candidate.
