We are looking for an experienced Controller to support financial operations for a Contract opportunity in Westborough, Massachusetts. This role is well suited for a hands-on accounting leader who can guide day-to-day finance activities, strengthen reporting accuracy, and provide reliable oversight across core accounting processes. The position will play a key role in close activities, reconciliations, and communication of financial results while supervising a small accounting team.
Responsibilities:
• Direct daily accounting operations and ensure financial activities are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
• Lead the month-end close process in partnership with the accounting team, reviewing entries and supporting the timely completion of financial statements.
• Prepare and deliver clear, accurate financial reports to ownership and other stakeholders on a regular basis.
• Supervise and mentor two staff accountants, providing guidance, prioritizing workloads, and maintaining effective department performance.
• Review balance sheet activity and complete detailed reconciliations, including bank accounts, to support the integrity of financial records.
• Oversee processes related to receivables and payables, including account monitoring, issue resolution, and the maintenance of accurate supporting documentation.
• Respond to account-related questions and work through discrepancies promptly to keep transactions and records current.
• Support audit readiness and budget-related activities by organizing financial data, validating account balances, and assisting with analysis.
• Use accounting systems such as Great Plains and other financial software tools to manage reporting and transactional workflows.
• Provide leadership coverage and accounting oversight when the primary controller is unavailable.
• Demonstrated experience in a Controller or senior-level accounting leadership role.• Strong knowledge of core accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger oversight.
• Hands-on experience with balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and trial balance review.
• Background in preparing financial reports and supporting monthly close activities.
• Familiarity with auditing practices and budget process support.
• Experience leading or supervising accounting staff in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with accounting software, including Great Plains or comparable financial systems.
