  • Package specimens for transport, following protocols for temperature, containers, and handling to preserve specimen quality.
  • Store specimen samples at the required temperature and place them in appropriate collection containers or tubes, following all procedural guidelines.
  • Update and maintain patient information accurately in electronic medical records and laboratory systems.
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as required to support a clean and safe laboratory environment.
  • Assist with troubleshooting issues related to specimen collection, processing, and workflow, and make recommendations to improve efficiency.
  • Attend and complete required annual department trainings to stay current with procedures and regulations.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and all applicable safety and compliance standards.
  • Answer telephone calls professionally and read laboratory results as needed to respond to inquiries within scope of role.
  • Support a high-volume workflow in a fast-paced setting, collaborating with clinical and laboratory staff to maintain timely service.

  • Minimum of 6 months of work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2–4 years of overall work experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated experience performing blood draws and venipuncture using different gauges and phlebotomy techniques.
  • Ability to collect, label, and process specimens accurately, including centrifuging, splitting, and freezing as required.
  • Ability to enter data accurately in different electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate matching of requisitions and specimen labels and error-free data entry.

  • Experience working in an ER-style or high-throughput clinical environment is highly beneficial.
  • Comfort working with a wide range of patients and adapting communication style to individual needs.
