Summary
Under general supervision, the Un‑Registered Medical Technologist performs a wide range of routine and specialized laboratory studies on blood, urine, and body fluid specimens as ordered by physicians. These tests provide diagnostic data for the treatment and management of disease and are performed in accordance with established standards and practices. Independent judgment, professional education, and certification eligibility are required. This role also assists the Laboratory Supervisor with day‑to‑day departmental operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Consults with the Laboratory Supervisor and keeps them informed of activities, needs, and issues.
- May be assigned to a specific laboratory department or rotate through a minimum of two or up to all laboratory departments.
- May serve as charge technologist in the absence of the department supervisor.
- Establishes work plans and priorities to ensure timely completion of assignments in compliance with policies and standards.
- Complies with all established laboratory procedures, standards, and practices.
- Assembles supplies and equipment; ensures proper operation, cleanliness, and maintenance of work areas.
- Ensures specimens are properly labeled, collected, received, stored, and discarded according to protocol.
- Records, reviews, certifies, and reports test results accurately.
- Maintains appropriate quality control procedures for instruments, reagents, and testing processes.
- Identifies instrument malfunctions or out‑of‑control results and takes corrective action.
- Assists with the training and orientation of new employees.
- Follows hospital, laboratory, departmental, and regulatory policies to maintain a safe work environment.
- Adheres to safe work practices and uses required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Demonstrates professionalism and respect toward patients, families, visitors, and coworkers.
- Recognizes and respects cultural diversity among internal and external customers.
- Communicates effectively with individuals of varying cultures, values, beliefs, and ages, utilizing interpreters as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
Required Experience
- Completion of twelve (12) months of clinical education/training in a Medical Technology program or equivalent.
- Requires approximately three (3) months of on‑the‑job training to gain proficiency with hospital policies, procedures, and job responsibilities.
Education & Certification
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or a related science.
- If the degree is in a related science, a minimum of five (5) years of full‑time acceptable clinical experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, or Microbiology within the last ten (10) years is required.
- At least two (2) years of experience must be under the supervision of a pathologist certified by or eligible for the American Board of Pathology, or an appropriately certified medical scientist and certified medical technologist.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, ASCP‑eligible , including recent graduates awaiting completion of the MT exam.
- ASCP eligibility or certification through another acceptable certification agency.

Pay Range:
