What does a Cook do?

Join our team at Broadview Assisted Living as a Chef, where culinary artistry meets compassion! As a culinary artist, you will be responsible for prepping and cooking delicious meals according to our unique recipes, ensuring the highest level of consistency and quality. You'll have the opportunity to engage with residents, tailoring dishes to meet their dietary needs and preferences while utilizing fresh, local ingredients. Your role will also involve serving meals in an appealing manner, maximizing presentation with garnish and flair.

What you need to be successful

To thrive as a Chef at Broadview Assisted Living, you need an exceptional set of culinary skills and a positive outlook. Proficiency in basic culinary competencies is vital, including knife skills-such as paring, boning, and dicing-as well as mastering various cooking methods like sautéing, braising, and grilling. Knowledge of proper sanitation is essential, encompassing safe cooking temperatures, effective food storage, and diligent hand hygiene practices.

A successful culinary artist will possess a vibrant team spirit and a willingness to contribute collaboratively while working efficiently with minimal supervision. Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-service-oriented approach are key to maintaining a professional demeanor and enhancing the dining experience for our residents. Additionally, a Serve Safe certification and a culinary degree or equivalent experience will set you apart.

Flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and holidays, is also necessary to meet the diverse needs of our community.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

1. Ability to perform basic culinary competencies:

• Knife Skills: Paring, Boning, Slicing, Dicing...
• Cooking Methods: Sauté, Braise, Sear, Steam, Broil, Fry, Bake, Grill, Convection, Dry Heat, Moist Heat...

2. Knowledge and demonstration of proper sanitization:

• Cooking / Holding Time & Temperature
• Labeling / Dating
• Proper Holding & Cooling of Potentially Hazardous Food (PHF)
• Receiving / Storage procedures
• Raw / Cooked Protein Storage
• Hand-Hygiene & glove wearing

3. Positive attitude and willingness to work as a team player.

4. Able to work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision.

5. Good interpersonal skills; Maintain professional demeanor at all times; Customer service oriented

6. Flexibility with being able to cover AM/PM, Evenings, Weekends & Holidays

Educational Qualifications (preferred):

1. Serve Safe certification

2. Culinary degree or equivalent experience
