Accountant III
Job Summary
This is a responsible administrative position within the Finance Department with a wide variety of duties pertaining to accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchases orders, coordinating and planning the daily activities of the finance office, including the upkeep of financial records and handling of citizen inquiries made to the County Finance Department.
Major Essential Duties
- Track, record and report non-electronic (check, cash and coin) banking activity
- Upkeep and reconciliation of various bank accounts
- Assist supervisor and co-workers in the preparation and completion of monthly, quarterly, annual and specialized financial reporting
- Responsible for tracking, posting and funding of the self-administered employer paid benefits insurance programs.
- Responsible for collecting, counting and depositing daily receipts from various county departments
- Responsible for issuing invoices related to payment in-lieu of tax agreements
- Daily OL processing, posting and transfers
- Fixed Assets tracking/recording, reporting and audit preparation
- Physical inventory
Minor Essential Duties
- Backup for issuing invoices based on contractual agreements and/or grant reimbursement requests.
- Assists Supervisor in annual audit preparation and external reporting.
- Process parking and vegetation violations from physical ticket through delinquent payment notices, liens and collections. Maintain Petty Cash drawer
- Cross train with responsible finance personnel to review, import and post bi-weekly payroll
- Cross train with responsible finance personnel to check payments prior to mailing to county vendors
- Cross train with responsible finance personnel in procurement and the conversion of requisitions and processing of purchase orders.
- Cross train with responsible finance personnel in the tracking, recording and reporting of electronic banking (ACH) activity.
- Off-site collection of funds from various county owned facilities for deposit.
- Sort incoming mail
- Special Projects as assigned

- This person works under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Expertise in financial reporting, GAAP, and compliance.
- Advanced Excel and ERP systems knowledge.
- Strong communication, leadership, and project management skills.
Language Skills
- Good verbal skills, ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, peers, management and the general public; ability to provide clear, easily understood explanations and directions.
- Good writing skills; ability to prepare clear and concise letters, memos, report, et al
- Ability to read and comprehend written reports, letters, instructions, legal laws
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and statistics as needed.
Reasoning Skills
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of complex and technical information, and instructions. Ability to solve practical problems, and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, and government regulations. Ability to respond to sensitive inquiries or complaints from the general public, business community and regulatory agencies.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Current State issued driver’s license

- Ability to deal fairly with coworkers, peers and management.
- Basic knowledge of management skills required planning the day’s work and organizing resources to obtain desired goals.
- Ability to work effectively daily with standard supervision.
- Advanced computer skills, proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to train individuals in the use of the computer software system, including the creation and documentation of policies and procedures within the departmental function.
- Ability to get along with others in the workplace and to respect their rights and individual abilities.

Salary Description
$32.69 but negotiable based on experience
