Associate, Liquidity Solutions (Enterprise Investment Office)

HarbourVest Partners
Boston, MA
Job Description Summary For over forty years, HarbourVest has been home to a committed team of professionals with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to deliver impactful solutions to our clients and investing partners. As our global firm grows, we continue to add individuals who seek a collaborative, open-door culture that values diversity and innovative thinking. In our collegial environment that’s marked by low turnover and high energy, you’ll be inspired to grow and thrive. Here, you will be encouraged to build on your strengths and acquire new skills and experiences. We are committed to fostering an environment of inclusion that promotes mutual respect among all employees. Understanding and valuing these differences optimizes the potential of both the individual and the firm. HarbourVest is an equal opportunity employer. This position will be a hybrid work arrangement. You will receive 18 remote workdays per quarter to use at your discretion, subject to manager approval. For example, you may choose to work in the office 4 days per week and take one remote day weekly (typically 13 weeks per quarter), leaving 5 additional remote days to be used as needed. The Liquidity Solutions Associate within the Enterprise Investment Office (EIO) supports the evaluation and execution of private equity divestment transactions in the secondary market. The role partners closely with the firm’s Divestment Council and focuses on LP‑led and GP‑led liquidity solutions, including asset sales, LP tenders, continuation vehicles, and managed SPVs across HarbourVest‑managed funds. The Associate leads platform‑wide due diligence across multiple strategies—including funds of funds, secondaries, direct co‑investments, private credit, and real assets—to assess value, risk, and optimal exit outcomes. What you will do:
  • Serve as the primary day‑to‑day support for the Divestment Council, facilitating preparation of materials, analyses, and recommendations to enable advised, timely decision‑making
  • Play a hands-on role throughout the full liquidity process, from initial opportunity assessment through execution and closing
  • Coordinate closely with internal investment teams to identify, evaluate, and prioritize divestment opportunities, ensuring consistency of approach and quality of analysis
  • Contributes to the development and maintenance of divestment materials, including investment committee memos, valuation analyses and important metrics
  • Act as an additional point of coordination across internal teams (legal, accounting, tax, portfolio analytics, fund management) and external partners (secondary advisors, counterparties)
  • Continuously refine divestment processes and frameworks, helping institutionalize best practices and improve efficiency
  • Support ad hoc strategic initiatives related to portfolio optimization, liquidity planning, and secondary market activity as advised by the Divestment Council
  • What you bring:
    • Background in investment banking or Private Markets
    • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
    • Strong quantitative skills with deep experience in Excel
    Education Preferred
    • Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or equivalent experience
    • Bachelor of Science (B.S) or equivalent experience
    Experience
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of investment banking or related finance experience or sit within a private funds or secondaries group
