Job Description Summary

The Sensors & Communications division of Draper is looking to fill a summer intern position within the Hardware Design & Development Directorate. Successful candidates are self-starters with a desire to learn new things and advance technology while working within a results oriented project. This position will directly impact the national security of the United States of America through a grant funded effort supporting NASA's Space Geodesy Project and the Geodetic Reference Transponder for Small Satellites (GRITSS). The goal of this project is the demonstration of a new proof-of-concept precision navigation and timing technique that fuses GPS and radio astronomical methods. Successful demonstration of this sensor fusion method will improve accuracy in measurements of Earth's shape, rotation and orientation.

The successful candidate will assist on multiple tasks both on space and ground segments of the GRITSS baseline. On the space-side of the interferometer, the student may support efforts in test procedure development, and analysis of instrument test data in preparation for the GRITSS launch into low Earth orbit. Following launch, efforts will be directed to support ground station readiness and data analysis.

Intern efforts on this project will be heavily focused on documentation and coding (MATLAB, Python, C/C++). Experience with microwave hardware and test equipment are required as much of the coding efforts will be focused on automation of measurements and/or analysis of data collected from commercial test equipment.
