Job Type: Internship (Paid)
Position Summary:
Under the Clinical Supervisor's oversight, the Clinical Intern is responsible for providing evidence-based mental health services to individuals, couples, children, and families affected by trauma, grief, and loss. Clinical Intern will work with a wide range of clients, create treatment plans, and diagnostically assess for additional appropriate services as needed.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities are completed under clinical supervision in alignment with internship requirements.
- Conduct behavioral health assessments and assist in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans for children, adolescents, and young adults.
- Provide individual, family, and collateral therapy in home/community settings under supervision; manage a small caseload (up to 5 clients).
- Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation (e.g., progress notes, treatment plans, contacts) in the electronic health record in compliance with agency, billing, and academic requirements.
- Collaborate closely with clinical supervisors, Family Partners, and interdisciplinary teams, fostering a supportive environment that values your contributions and learning.
- Coordinate care with families, providers, schools, and external agencies (e.g., DMH, DCF, DYS, DPH, MCI) and support access to community resources.
- Support crisis response, safety planning, and risk management under supervision; respond to client emergencies as needed.
- Promote family engagement, self-advocacy, and skill-building using culturally responsive, family-driven, and CBHI/wraparound approaches.
- Maintain regular communication with supervisors and the site (email/voicemail) and provide updates on case progress.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, including HIPAA confidentiality and mandated reporting (M.G.L. Chapter 119, Section 51A).
- Maintain flexibility in scheduling to meet client needs (MondayFriday, 8:00 AM 8:00 PM).
Soft & Behavioral Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage clients, families, and team members in a community-based setting.
- Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Knowledge of child development and foundational clinical/psychiatric principles, with demonstrated cultural and linguistic competence.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills, with attention to detail.
- Proficiency with computers and digital tools (experience with Google Workspace preferred)
REQUIREMENTS
Internship Eligibility:
- Enrollment in an accredited MSW, LMHC, or LMFT program as a second-year/advanced clinical intern.
- Eligible to begin field placement or practicum per academic requirements.
- Commitment to trauma-informed, strengths-based, and culturally responsive practice.
- Willingness to obtain the Massachusetts CBHI CANS certification. It may be obtained through online training.
- Strong clinical writing, documentation, and communication skills.
- Valid Drivers License, safe driving record, and access to a personal vehicle for transportation to the client's residence.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of clinical or field experience in culturally diverse mental health or human services settings.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.
SUPERVISION & LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
