Senior Accountant

Foley
Boston, MA

Foley is looking for a Senior Accountant to play a key role in strengthening and scaling our accounting operations. Reporting to the Corporate Controller, this role will own critical components of the close process, bring structure and rigor to complex accounting workflows, and help improve how the accounting organization operates across systems, processes, and teams.

This is a high-impact individual contributor role for someone who combines strong accounting fundamentals with operational discipline, analytical thinking, and a continuous improvement mindset. You’ll help drive accuracy, visibility, and efficiency across core accounting operations while supporting a finance organization that is continuing to scale.

What you’ll do

Own & Execute Core Accounting Operations

  • Lead key components of the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analysis

  • Own complex account reconciliations, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of discrepancies

  • Support revenue recognition and deferred revenue accounting in alignment with ASC 606

  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation and support year-end audit and compliance activities

Drive Operational Excellence

  • Help improve reconciliation, close, and reporting processes to increase efficiency, consistency, and accuracy

  • Identify operational inefficiencies and proactively recommend scalable process improvements

  • Strengthen adherence to internal controls, accounting policies, and documentation standards

  • Support the accounting team in building repeatable, high-quality operating rhythms and workflows

Analyze Data & Improve Insight

  • Analyze large and complex datasets to identify trends, risks, variances, and operational opportunities

  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A and business teams to ensure financial information is accurate, actionable, and aligned across systems

  • Assist with reporting and analysis that supports business and operational decision-making

Leverage Systems & Technology

  • Use systems, automation, and technology to improve accounting workflows and reduce manual work

  • Partner cross-functionally to streamline data flows and improve reporting visibility

  • Contribute to process automation and systems improvement initiatives where appropriate

  • Bring a practical, solutions-oriented mindset to improving how work gets done, including thoughtful use of AI and emerging tools

Who you are

  • 3-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a SaaS, technology, or high-growth environment

  • Strong foundation in GAAP accounting with experience applying ASC 606 principles

  • Experience owning close activities and complex reconciliation processes

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work through large or complex datasets

  • Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis, etc.)

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work

  • Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams

  • Demonstrated ownership mindset with strong execution and follow-through

Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, GP, or similar platforms

  • Exposure to process improvement, workflow automation, or systems implementations

  • Experience leveraging technology or automation to improve accounting operations

  • CPA or progress toward certification

You might thrive in this role if…

  • You enjoy creating structure and improving accounting processes and workflows

  • You balance attention to detail with the ability to identify broader operational improvements

  • You operate with urgency while maintaining a high bar for accuracy and quality

  • You’re curious, proactive, and consistently look for smarter ways to get work done

  • You take pride in being a reliable teammate others can depend on

  • You’re comfortable working in an evolving environment where processes continue to mature

Location: This role is primarily remote but requires regular in-person collaboration at our Boston office. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of Boston and be able to come onsite regularly for team meetings, collaboration, and other business needs.
