Overview

The Pathfinder office at Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center (“DF/HCC”) aims to strengthen training opportunities for DF/HCC researchers at all career stages by utilizing the exceptional educational resources offered at DF/HCC institutions and launch initiatives that target strategic training challenges. DF/HCC is an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center that formally unites as a consortium all the major clinical, population, and basic cancer research efforts of: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School and Harvard School of Public Health, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, the Brigham and Women's, Boston Children's, and Massachusetts General Hospitals.


The Program Manager II will work closely with the DF/HCC Pathfinder team, DF/HCC faculty, the Associate Director for Cancer Research Education and Training responsible for Pathfinder initiatives and will report to the Vice President DF/HCC Administration.


The Program Manager II is responsible for the execution and management of complex programs that support departmental and cross-departmental initiatives. This role involves managing multiple projects, coordinating resources, and ensuring program objectives are met. The Program Manager will engage with stakeholders to facilitate program success and drive continuous improvement centered on 1) education and training for early-stage cancer researchers 2) database and systems development/maintenance 3) community building to achieve DF/HCC strategic goals.


In addition to the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will preferably also have an academic foundation in the natural sciences and possess experience within an academic or medical institution and/or higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and Complexity: Manage moderately complex programs that span multiple departments, coordinating related projects to support cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Decision Making: Make informed decisions about resource allocation and project timelines, with some autonomy in resolving operational challenges.
  • Stakeholder Interaction and Communication: Engage with a broader range of stakeholders, including department heads and project leads, to gather requirements and provide updates.
  • Program Management: Plan and manage program activities, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives, and efficient use of resources.
  • Quality Assurance and Performance Monitoring: Track program progress and performance metrics, report findings to stakeholders and recommend improvements.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate program documentation and ensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks to program success and implement mitigation strategies to address them.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises staff.
  • Hires and develops team members with the capabilities to achieve organizational goals.
  • Defines and communicates clear expectations, provides regular constructive feedback, and evaluates performance against objectives.
  • Oversees team’s compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Monitors work for efficiency, effectiveness, and quality.
  • Mentors and coaches staff, facilitating training opportunities, and supporting career growth.
  • Works with senior management and Human Resources to address performance issues, as appropriate.
  • Promotes and fosters a healthy and productive work environment within the team and with groups across the Institute.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, management, healthcare, or a related field required.
  • Five (5) years of relevant experience with progressively increasing responsibility of which at least two (2) years must be in program management OR comparable roles.
  • Project or Program Management Professional certification is preferred (PgMP, PMP, etc.).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Solid understanding of program management methodologies and practices.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

$103,059- $116,304
