About the Department

The Rare Disease organization leads all US Commercial efforts for Novo Nordisk's Rare Disease portfolio. The Rare Disease portfolio includes medical treatments, customer solutions, and devices across multiple Therapy Areas including Rare Bleeding Disorders, Rare Endocrine Disorders, Rare Renal Disorders, and Hemoglobinopathies (Sickle Cell Disease & Beta Thalassemia), as well as new products in the pipeline.

The Rare Disease organization is responsible for leading the enterprise approach to achieving our patient care goals and financial objectives, devising and delivering transformative patient and customer experiences, addressing unmet needs across the communities we serve, and setting the industry standard for extraordinary execution. The team members collaborate and partner cross functionally with multiple functions and groups throughout the US organization, Clinical Development, Research & Early Development, other affiliates, and the Global HQ teams.

The Position

Attends and when possible assists with planning events held by patient organizations in his/her territory, and represents Novo Nordisk, Inc. (NNI) at selected national events hosted by those patient organizations. Events may include fundraising/volunteering efforts along with representation at educational meetings. Collaborates with Market Access and Government Affairs teams when advocacy issues arise and as appropriate. Cultivates relationships with patients, caregivers and other community stakeholders by participating in and assisting with community events on behalf of NNI. Establishes and manages relationships with key patient organizations, including local chapters of the National Hemophilia Foundation and Hemophilia Federation of America chapters etc. Regularly communicates perspectives, findings and insights to Rare Disease leadership through informal and formal (e.g., oral and written presentations) mechanisms Includes sharing insights and competitive intelligence within the hemophilia area. Represents NNI to the Hemophilia patient community and patient organizations (e.g., local hemophilia chapters) with the goal of increasing patient awareness of Novo Nordisks hemophilia products and patient support programs in an assigned territory. Serves as the center of coordination for patient-related activities across patient community and the broader NNI organization (both within Rare Disease and relevant functions outside of Rare Disease) to ensure that learnings from patients, caregivers and other stakeholders are incorporated into the Rare Disease strategy and business decisions. Serves as the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) between patients/caregivers and NovoCare, ensuring patients are informed of available NovoCare support services and kept updated on service offerings, access processes, and the status or progress of support requests, in alignment with all applicable policies and guidelines.

Relationships

Helps identify when home office support and presence is needed at larger community based events such as chapter meetings and other functions. Member of the Community Engagement Field Force and has interactions with Rare Blood Marketing to provide feedback on development of direct-to-patient materials, tools and programs. Reports directly to Rare Blood Community Liaison Leader and interacts with other Rare Blood Community Liaisons (RBCL)and other relevant NNI functions including Government Affairs.

Essential Functions
  • Develops direct relationships with patients/caregivers and other hemophilia community members including hemophilia organizations and chapters, state and local advocacy groups
  • Executes patient and caregiver educational meetings / exhibits at chapter events, home care meetings, patient conventions, patient dinners, support at community events/camps, etc. about hemophilia and NNI products and services within relevant guidelines
  • Plans and conducts meetings with state and local chapters with the goal of educating patients, caregivers, and other stakeholders on NNIs products and services within relevant guidelines
  • Promotes NNI hemophilia products and services to patients and caregivers within the hemophilia community
  • Coordinates with Community Engagement Leadership and Marketing team, regularly sharing insights on how NNI can continue to improve its offering to the hemophilia community
  • Coordinates with other RBCLs to prepare internal communications to the Rare Disease team, keeping internal stakeholders attuned to the pulse of the community
  • Ensures all communications are HIPAA compliant
  • Identifies for home office, opportunities for increased levels of presence, support and engagement
  • Proactively works to continually deepen NNIs relationship with State and local advocacy organizations (e.g. local chapters of NHF, HFA, etc.), engaging with Government Affairs when necessary
  • Represents NNI at local and national hemophilia events
  • Supports planning efforts for community fundraising activities as needed
  • When necessary, directs questions from the community to the appropriate NNI channel (e.g., MIR, NovoCare, , etc.)
  • Utilizes discretionary budget for maximum impact on community engagement
  • Acts as the primary liaison (SPOC) between patients/caregivers and NovoCare by proactively educating patients on available support services, facilitating awareness of program updates, and coordinating with NovoCare to help ensure timely communication regarding support status, while not replacing or duplicating NovoCare's operational responsibilities
Physical Requirements

75-90% overnight travel required; Driver must maintain a valid driver's license. Must be in good standing by not exceeding the Novo Nordisk points threshold assigned based on review of Motor Vehicle Records.

Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience required. Relevant experience may include hemophilia care, treatment or advocacy, business to business or pharmaceutical sales experience; pharmaceutical sales experience preferred
  • Marketing or clinical experience preferred
  • A Bachelors degree required, scientific degree preferred
This position is part of a job family. Title and level within the job family are evaluated based on a number of factors, such as years of experience, scope of work, proficiency, and business need. Candidates will be assessed for the most appropriate title and level within the job family during the recruitment process. The base range of pay for each title in this job family are as follows:

• Rare Blood Community Liaison $83,400 - $150,200

• Sr Rare Blood Community Liaison $99,600- $184,200


In addition, this position is eligible for a company bonus based on individual and company performance.


Novo Nordisk offers long-term incentive compensation and or company vehicles depending on the position's level or other company factors.
