Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Supports the design, implementation, integration, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems. Works closely with controls engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, cost-effective automation solutions while improving equipment performance, process efficiency, and manufacturing operations.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and implement PLC control logic, fail-safe states, and recovery sequences for automated equipment.
  • Support engineering project teams in the design, integration, testing, commissioning, and startup of manufacturing systems.
  • Install and integrate field devices, safety systems, and control architectures that meet site standards and process requirements.
  • Troubleshoot automation, controls, and system integration issues to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
  • Coordinate with external system integrators and machine builders to support successful project execution.
  • Participate in system fabrication, factory acceptance testing (FAT), installation, documentation, operator training, and equipment startup.
  • Manage assigned project activities, track timelines, and provide project status updates to engineering leadership.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance manufacturing efficiency, automation performance, and equipment reliability.

Qualifications

  • Strong experience integrating field devices, including flow, motion, temperature, material handling, and safety systems into automated equipment.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (ladder logic), HMI/GUI development, PID loop tuning, and industrial control system architecture.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, robotics, electro-mechanical equipment, motion control, and manufacturing automation.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering, IT, and process teams to develop and implement automation solutions.
  • Experience supporting project execution, including system checkout, panel verification, testing, commissioning, and startup.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLC platforms is preferred.

Education and Experience

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • 5+ years of controls, automation, or manufacturing equipment experience.

Work Schedule

  • Monday–Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM.
  • Off-shift support may be required based on business and project needs.

The range for this position is $70,954.00 - $97,562.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
