Director of Executive Engagement
Global Risks Solutions (GRS), Liberty Mutual’s global business operating in nearly thirty countries, seeks a Director of Executive Engagement and Thought Leadership to build and lead an integrated strategy. This role operates in a fast-paced, highly matrixed, and complex environment. The Director will report to the SVP, Business Alignment.

Success requires a savvy engagement leader with an integrated mindset and strong stakeholder ecosystem understanding. The role involves partnering across various functions—such as enterprise brand, communications, public affairs, talent/learning, sustainability, strategy, investor relations, and marketing—to position the president effectively and achieve organizational goals.
The leader will develop close partnerships to understand strategic directions, plan and organize to connect dots, and drive efficiency and impact across messages, audiences, and tactics. They will also develop and execute an integrated strategy for the business.
This role requires a strong understanding of policy, communications, and brand, along with market awareness to identify visibility opportunities. The Director will collaborate with the president’s executive assistant for meeting preparations and with the alignment team for global opportunities.
The Director will lead the evolution of the GRS-wide engagement strategy, including communication goals, tactics, project management, execution, and measurement. They should be a concise writer capable of preparing scripts, presentations, speeches, and other materials that represent the business and its leader, maintaining focus and clarity.
Partnership with the SVP, Business Alignment, and other leaders will be essential to improve engagement and communication ecosystems for effectiveness and efficiency. The role may also involve liaising with external boards and entities for communication coordination, including event preparations and post-event communications.
People leadership experience is preferred, as the role may manage others. The position is ideally based in Boston with a hybrid schedule; other locations may be considered depending on experience, with flexibility for travel and offsite support.

- Leading agile and change management initiatives in a dynamic global environment.
- Championing cultural fluency for inclusive, globally relevant communication and thought leadership.
- Incorporating emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance engagement.
- Extending stakeholder partnerships externally with industry influencers, think tanks, government, and international bodies to broaden thought leadership.
- Experience in politics on Capitol Hill and/or campaigns strongly preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of communication planning tools.
- Exceptional writing skills with the ability to synthesize complex messages.
- Insurance industry experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills, with proactive needs anticipation.
- High professionalism for handling confidential information and building strong relationships.
- Ability to read subtle cues and respond appropriately.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and 10+ years of relevant communication experience, including supporting C-level executives; Master’s degree preferred.
- Prior experience supporting executives in financial services is strongly preferred.
Pay Philosophy: Compensation varies based on skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive market and opportunities for growth. Some roles include additional compensation such as bonuses or commissions.
