The Senior Accountant position is a vital role within the Accounting Department and is primarily responsible for managing and supporting the month-end financial close process. This role involves preparing journal entries, completing balance sheet reconciliations, performing financial analysis, maintaining accounting controls, producing management reports, and assisting with annual budgeting and audit activities. The position reports to the Accounting Manager and works closely with teams across Accounting, Finance, and Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support month-end and year-end close activities by preparing and reviewing journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Perform monthly account and balance sheet reconciliations to maintain general ledger accuracy
• Coordinate and participate in internal and external audits, providing required documentation and responding to audit inquiries
• Partner with the Finance team to ensure appropriate general ledger coding for both standard and non-standard transactions
• Conduct monthly budget-to-actual variance analysis and identify trends or causes of variances
• Lead and support process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance accounting efficiency and accuracy
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on projects and assist with other departmental or business initiatives as needed

Job Requirements – Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Minimum of five years of professional accounting experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential
• Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• Prior experience in healthcare accounting

Knowledge and Skills:

• Strong working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with solid technical accounting expertise
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex accounting matters
• Proficiency in general ledger systems and adaptability to system changes, along with strong Microsoft Word and Excel skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational abilities within a non-profit healthcare environment
• Professional demeanor with a positive attitude and a team-oriented mindset, willing to assist across the department when required
