Precision CNC Turning Technician
About the Role
Double E Group designs and manufactures advanced web handling, material handling, and converting solutions used across paper, tissue, film, and foil converting. Join our Machining/Manufacturing/Assembly facility and work alongside specialists in manual machining, saw cutting, assembly, and service to produce high-precision parts that power our customers’ operations.
A Day in the Life
You begin your shift by reviewing program specs and blueprints, mapping out machine operations and sequencing for a low-volume, high-mix workload. With 5+ changeovers daily, you group jobs to trim setup time and keep throughput high. You perform efficient setups, mount and align tools and fixtures, and transfer commands from servers to CNC modules via network links. After a meticulous first-piece inspection using vernier calipers, micrometers, and drop dial indicators, you run the job—monitoring lubrication and cooling, and stopping the machine as needed to swap tooling or adjust placement according to the machining sequence. Throughout the day, you collaborate with your Supervisor and Application Engineering/Programming to refine processes and improve outcomes. Other duties arise, and you handle them with the same care and drive.
What You’ll Do
- Operate CNC equipment in a low-volume, high-mix environment (5+ changeovers daily).
- Analyze and group work to reduce setups and maximize workflow.
- Perform efficient machine setups.
- Complete first-piece inspections using vernier calipers, micrometers, and drop dial indicators.
- Mount, install, align, and secure tools, attachments, fixtures, and workpieces using hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Stop machines to remove finished parts or to change tooling, setup, or piece placement per required machining sequences.
- Transfer commands from servers to computer numerical control (CNC) modules using computer network links.
- Ensure proper lubrication and cooling during operation.
- Review program specifications or blueprints to determine and set operations, sequencing, finished dimensions, and numerical control sequences.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring
- Some degree of CNC programming experience.
- Average math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions; clear, simple oral communication skills.
- Physically able to lift, push, pull, and position components up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to stand consistently for an entire 8 to 10-hour shift.
- Team-oriented and reliable.
Education and Experience
- Minimum of three years of experience in a machine shop, or one year if a vocational school graduate.
- Knowledge of basic machining practices and materials is a plus, as is general mechanical knowledge.
Team Culture
Work shoulder-to-shoulder with skilled colleagues across machining, assembly, and service. Your ideas for process improvements are encouraged, tested, and implemented to raise the bar for quality and efficiency.
