O&M Technician

Job Description Position Purpose: Under the direction of Project Leader and the Deputy Leader work performed includes all correct maintenance at the plant and the stations. It also includes the day-to-day operations, and laboratory for the Rockland Wastewater Treatment facility. Work also includes maintaining the 13 pump stations and assisting the town in the collection system. Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- In charge of the maintenance program: Enters data and closes data.
- Performs preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on equipment according to vendor specifications. This includes but is not limited to lubrication, adjustments, oil changes, pump repair.
- Inspects and troubleshoots equipment using tools of the trade.
- Installs new or replacement mechanical systems and equipment. Prepares labor and material estimates to present to the project leader.
- Performs mechanically related activities specified by work order like vibration analysis and nondestructive testing.
- Welds, brazes, and solders using gas and electric equipment common to the trade.
- Keeps track of the maintenance inventory and reports monthly that inventory to the project leader.
- Prints out monthly maintenance reports to the project leader.
- Operates and maintains project vehicles.
- Maintaining safe and reliable operations of the wastewater treatment facilities and the pump stations ensuring operational compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Share duties with other co-workers to complete the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and lab.
- Operates equipment either through SCADA or by manual control.
- Monitors and observes operating conditions. Records observations and data in a logbook.
- Diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action. Communicates status changes and abnormalities in operating areas.
- Follows process control procedures for assigned areas. Verifies and reports suspected malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Monitor chemical supplies and will inform the supervisor when running low.
- Operate and calibrate equipment for lab analysis.
- Collect wastewater samples and perform the necessary laboratory and field analyses.
- Perform routine mathematical calculations.
- Assured work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating and emergency response procedures.
- Completes all required safety classes assigned by the company.
- Required rotational schedule for on-call and holidays.
- At times may be required to work off hours including weekends.
- All outside work including but not limited to snow removal, salting, mowing grass, and weed trimming.
- Routine cleaning and general housekeeping duties in all building areas as assigned, including but not limited to sweeping, dusting, mopping, painting, and cleaning of other process equipment and areas.
- Assists the project to develop a culture of focus to achieve EH&S (Environment, Health, and Safety) excellence.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed both inside and outside with exposure to all kinds of temperature conditions.
- Must be able to adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- At times there may be occasional exposure to some noise, silica, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, greases, oils, electrical energy, solvents, and vibrations.
- The working environment may happen to take place on slippery or uneven surfaces, around machinery with moving parts, moving objects or moving vehicles, and while standing on ladders or scaffolding.
- It is also possible to be exposed to water and other liquid materials
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED is required.
- 0+ years in the wastewater field.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong reading, math, writing, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to read, interpret, and record data from meters, gauges, scales, panels, computer consoles, and other equipment.
- Demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs like Google (Sheets, Docs, Drive), and the CMMS (maintenance program).
- Requires ability to troubleshoot and take action either by solving the issue or communicating with a senior operator.
- Requires the ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.
- Must be able to work as a team in a teamwork environment.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Must have and maintain a Massachusetts Grade 5C Wastewater License.
- Must have a hoisting license 1B: hoisting with cables.
- Must have chain fall 3A license.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee needs the ability to work in various positions which require standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, climbing stairs, and working with their hands.
- The employee is frequently required to climb up, and down safely from ladders.
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to distinguish color, as well as seeing near and far.
