After School Program Educator, Newton, part-time
Under the direction of the Discovery Club Site Coordinator, the After School Program Educator collaborates to create enriching, supportive and memorable experiences for children enrolled in the program. This school-year position drives engaging work to make a difference in children’s lives while assuring the safety and well-being of the Discovery Club’s children, providing general program supervision, developing and implementing activities, and assisting in guiding and promoting children's interpersonal skill development.
The After School Educator is primarily responsible for assisting children with their schoolwork, including math, reading, and writing assignments. Assembling educational resources and tools, including books, art supplies, stationery, and other items as needed. As well as interacting with children to offer direction, emotional support, and inspiration to finish assignments.
The After School Educator will also assist with overseeing and providing a vision for robust social emotional learning, Jewish experiential learning, planning daily activates, and creating learning materials. The After School Educator will provide assistance in creating and collaborating on progress reports to inform parents about their child’s studies and personal development.

This position has a school year work schedule and aligns with the school year calendar which typically runs from September – June each year, with some onboarding and orientation/training in August each year.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Foster creative and vibrant classrooms in a safe and enriching environment
- Supervise up to 13 students independently
- Create and lead engaging experiences for children in grades K-5 (ages 5-11)
- Support and implement robust social emotional learning, Jewish experiential learning, and general enrichment with the guidance of Discovery Club Leadership
- Complete some hours of orientation and onboarding prior to being in the classroom
- Ensure compliance with Early Education & Care (EEC) policies and regulations
- Ride transportation or supervise public school transportation pick up, as needed
- Participate as a team member in Family Programming meetings and training
- Communicate effectively with Discovery Club leadership and team staff
- Take attendance and be responsible for knowing which children are present in your group at all times
- Other responsibilities and tasks, as needed

- May support the Family Engagement and Jewish Life (FEJL) department at special events (e.g., Kids Night Out, babysitting, birthday parties, signature programs, and other seasonal offerings) as appropriate to organizational needs and fit.

This is a limited part-time +/- 5-20 hours per week, non-exempt position. Requirements
Education and Experience: Based on licensing requirements, After School Educators must meet one of these three sets of qualifications:
- Nine months experience working with children OR
- A high school diploma or equivalent and six months of experience working with children OR
- An associate or Bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus 3 months of experience working with children
Must pass state mandated CORI/SORI/DCF/fingerprinting background check
Must be 18 years or older
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Physical Requirements: Able to work well in person in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Able to lift and carry objects weighing at 30-40 pounds (boxes of supplies, children’s backpacks etc. Able to sit and kneel; getting down at eye level with children regularly.
