Total Compensation: $230K - $300K + Equity + Full Benefit Package (Day one)

Role Overview
Flexcar is seeking a highly driven Controller, who will be the everyday lead of the Accounting function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, robust internal controls, and scalable systems to support rapid expansion. You will work closely with the Director of Finance and senior leadership team to ensure compliance and provide insights that drive smarter business decisions. The ideal candidate has deep technical accounting expertise and thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Accounting & Reporting:
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial statement reporting
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and consolidation processes.
- Develop, implement, and ensure compliance of accrual processes to continuously improve the accuracy of in-period reporting
- Partner with FP&A to deliver real-time insights, track spend, and optimize operational efficiency
- Design, document, implement, and monitor internal controls over financial reporting (SOX / ICFR readiness).
- Develop internal control guidelines, policies and procedures for budget accounting and cash management
- Oversee external audit process, manage audit committees, coordinate with audit partners, valuation firms, technical advisors, and other external specialists
- Ensure tax compliance and liaise with external tax advisors
- Develop accounting policies and technical memos on complex transactions (revenue recognition, equity, debt, etc.)
- Implement scalable accounting systems (ERP, billing, payroll, etc.) and automation to ensure scalability
- Strengthen accounting operations including AP, payroll, and treasury management
- Establish consistent processes and documentation to ensure audit readiness
- Drive continuous improvement and process optimization, including automation and workflow enhancement
- Partner with Finance on forecasting inputs, financial reporting, and board materials
- Provide accounting and structural due diligence support for strategic initiatives (partnerships, licensing deals, etc.).
- Build and manage a high-performing accounting team as the company scales.
- Support cross-functional teams (legal, operations, HR) on accounting implications of business decision
- Prepare materials for the Board and audit / finance committees, present on top accounting judgments, control environment status, and high-risk issues.
- Ensure rigorous confidentiality and integrity of financial data, and maintain the highest standards of ethics, judgment, and compliance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s degree a plus; CPA preferred
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong mix of public accounting and in-house leadership roles
- Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and technical accounting
- A bias for action and ownership mentality, with a reputation for rolling up your sleeves, working hard, and driving results in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
- Proven ability to implement systems and processes in a high-growth environment
- Demonstrated leadership and team management experience
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and accounting systems; NetSuite experience preferred
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with stakeholders at all levels
