Stoneleigh-Burnham School, an independent girls’ boarding and day school for grades 7-12, seeks an experienced, half-time Director of the Academic Center for the 2026-2027 school year, effective August 2026.

Located in the Pioneer Valley, a short drive from the Five College Consortium (University of Massachusetts and Smith, Mount Holyoke, Hampshire, and Amherst Colleges), Stoneleigh-Burnham School is the only girls’ school in New England to offer the IB Diploma Programme and attracts students from the local area and around the world. Duties and responsibilities:

  • Half-time, 10-month position; includes some summer work in the weeks leading up to the opening of school and willingness to be consulted when decisions are made about incoming students over the summer
  • Oversee the Academic Skills Program (ASP), including:
    • Teach academic skills to assigned students in 1:1 setting and small-group setting
    • Help Admissions Office meet with educational consultants and educators to market the Academic Center
    • Help Marketing and Communications with materials about the ASP
    • Review educational testing of all enrolled students; develop and distribute learning plans
    • Oversee the students in all levels of the ASP
    • Serve as in-house “expert” on learning differences
    • Consult with and guide classroom teachers to accommodate student needs
    • Manage referrals for academic support and educational testing, gr 7-12
    • Manage accommodations requests for College Board tests (SAT and ACT) and International Baccalaureate exams
    • Communicate with outside professionals about student learning issues
    • Work with the Scheduler to schedule skills sessions
    • Coordinate the Peer Tutoring Program, the Testing Support Program (TSP), and the evening study hall program
    • Maintain a master list of testing and oversee necessary updates according to policy. Adhere to record-keeping protocols and follow-up procedures
    • Work closely with the Head of School, Curriculum Committee, Admissions, Director of Student Life, Counseling Department, and Health Center
    • Provide information and education to faculty around learning needs and neurodivergence
    • Serve as a leader on campus and coordinate ideas for growth of the ASP with the Head of School
  • Represent the Academic Center on admissions panels and at other external-facing events
  • Serve on the Curriculum Committee, Student Services Team, and the Admissions/Retention Committee
  • Teach 1-2 small group classes in the AC or equivalent
  • Other responsibilities may include: advise students, serve on committees
  • Residential duty and campus housing a possibility. This position reports to the Head of School

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years of previous experience with students with learning differences and educational qualifications or certifications to support this specific expertise
  • Experience providing academic skills instruction to individuals and small groups of students.
  • Demonstrated investment in campus life and making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents
  • Experience in equity and inclusion work that supports a diverse community in a boarding school environment
  • The ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, teachers, administrators, staff, and outside professionals
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Commitment to school-wide initiatives, including on-going professional growth and development
  • The desire to work in a boarding school community
