Head of Business Development - Biotech Out-Licensing
We’re recruiting for an innovative biotechnology company seeking a US based Head of Business Development to lead global out-licensing strategy for biological and therapeutic assets.
This is a fully remote opportunity open to candidates anywhere in the United States. The company’s corporate headquarters are in Maryland, and candidates aligned with Eastern Time Zone hours are strongly preferred to support executive collaboration and core business operations.
Important Requirement
This role requires direct, recent experience leading out-licensing transactions within a biotechnology or pharmaceutical company. Candidates must currently serve or have very recently served in a formal Business Development function within a biotech or pharma organization . Experience outside of biotech/pharma (CROs, medical device, healthcare services, or commercial sales roles) will not meet the requirements for this position.
About the Role
This executive leader will own global licensing strategy, identify strategic biopharma partners, structure complex transactions, and drive enterprise value through high-impact collaborations.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead global out-licensing initiatives for biologics and therapeutic programs
• Identify, evaluate, and qualify pharmaceutical and biotechnology partners
• Conduct rigorous market analysis and competitive intelligence to position assets effectively
• Structure and negotiate licensing agreements including valuations, milestone payments, royalties, and financial frameworks
• Develop and present high-level business cases and partnership proposals to senior stakeholders
• Drive term sheet development, due diligence, and cross-functional deal execution
• Collaborate with R&D, regulatory, clinical, and executive leadership to maximize portfolio value
• Oversee partner performance post-deal to ensure contractual alignment and accountability
What You Bring
• Direct, hands-on biotech out-licensing experience as part of your recent Business Development leadership responsibilities
• Significant experience in biopharmaceutical business development and strategic licensing
• Demonstrated success negotiating complex global licensing transactions
• Strong financial acumen including asset valuation and deal structuring
• Deep understanding of therapeutic development, regulatory pathways, and commercialization strategy
• Executive-level relationship management skills with a track record of driving measurable results
• Ability to manage multiple high-stakes initiatives simultaneously with precision and discretion
This is not a commercial sales role. Qualified candidates must have executed biotech out-licensing transactions within a formal Business Development function.
