Team Lead of Support and Counseling (2026-2027)

Solomon Schechter Day School of Greater Boston
Newton, MA

Schechter Boston creates a Jewish educational experience where each child, 12 months through eighth grade, will be known, belong, be engaged, be inspired, and be prepared. Faculty, staff, and students at Schechter benefit from a highly collaborative, mutually supportive environment in which each person’s individual strengths are recognized and cultivated, and are vital to the success and learning of the community as a whole. Individuals who work at Schechter Boston must thrive in a culture that lives every day by the following values:

  • Believing there is no limit to better
  • Providing honest and kind feedback
  • Failing forward
  • Leaning into complexity
  • Being kinder than necessary

Schechter Boston is seeking a talented, mission-driven Team Lead of Support and Counseling to help the school articulate and implement a comprehensive, inclusive, and student-centered approach to academic, social-emotional, and behavioral support. The Team Lead will supervise learning specialists and counselors across grades, coordinate the school’s multi-tiered system of supports, and work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and families to ensure that all students experience a learning environment where they are known, supported, and able to thrive.

  • Supervising and coaching learning specialists, counselors and nurses , ensuring high-quality instruction, effective interventions, and consistent communication across teams and divisions.
  • Leading the school’s multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) by overseeing processes for identifying student needs, designing interventions, monitoring progress, and coordinating communication with families and external service providers.
  • Strengthening faculty capacity to meet diverse learning and social-emotional needs through consultation, professional development, classroom observations, and the development of shared tools and practices.
  • Coordinating student support plans , including behavior plans, academic interventions, social-emotional supports, and accommodations informed by psychological and neuropsychological evaluations.
  • Partnering closely with families to ensure that communication about student needs is proactive, clear, compassionate, and grounded in shared problem solving.
  • Ensuring strong record keeping and data-informed decision making , including maintaining student support documentation, progress monitoring systems, and communication logs.
  • Building and sustaining relationships with community-based clinicians, agencies, and service providers to support students whose needs extend beyond what the school can directly provide.
  • Provide direct service to a caseload of students (learning support or counseling)

Core Competencies

  • Relational Leadership – Able to partner with faculty, families, students, and administrators with warmth, clarity, and emotional intelligence.
  • Instructional and Clinical Insight – Ability to observe patterns, synthesize information from evaluations and classroom data, and recommend effective interventions.
  • Supervision & Coaching – Skilled at guiding professional practice, setting goals, giving feedback, and supporting a high-functioning team.
  • Strategic Thinking – Capacity to design and refine systems of support that are sustainable, equitable, and aligned with school priorities.
  • Change Management – Experience implementing new practices with sensitivity to pace, culture, and shared ownership.
  • Exceptional Communication – Able to articulate expectations, plans, and concerns clearly, compassionately, and with transparency.
  • Commitment to Inclusion – Deep belief in the school’s mission to reach all types of learners and to honor the dignity of every child.

Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree required in education, special education, psychology, counseling, social work, or a related field.
  • 7–10 years of experience in student support, counseling, learning support, school psychology, or a related field.
