What you'll do

In this Data Platform team lead role, you will be accountable for leading a team of 5 engineers to build and maintain Viasat’s Data Platform in a GCP environment. You will be responsible for quarterly planning, sprint planning, leading, and executing planned work. You will design and implement solutions to manage our data lake, govern our data, and enable AI and ML solutions.

The day-to-day

As the lead of a team, you’ll help set direction, mentor junior team members, and execute on our road map for our data platform.

We look for:

• The ability to communicate clearly and work well with both technical and non-technical teams.
• The ability to take on projects with vague requirements, distill them into software or data engineering tasks, and complete them with the help of junior engineers.
• Proven ability to work with other teams and with product management.
• The ability to plan, execute on and track software and data engineering tasks.

What you'll need

• 2+ year of team leadership, or comparable leadership experience.
• 5+ years proven data engineering experience using common data engineering languages (Java or Python) and common data engineering framework and tools like DBT, Spark, and Flink.
• Familiarity with RDBMS technologies (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.)
• Experience in Linux based systems, docker, and code versioning tooling (Git/CI/CD).
• Familiarity with at least one cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with at least one of Looker, Superset, or Tableau.
• Experience in design and implementation of robust and highly scalable data services.
• Proven team player with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced dynamic agile work environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering or equivalent technical background and experience.
• Ability to travel up to 10%.

What will help you on the job

• Understanding of distributed and parallel computing architectures.
• Experience with Big Data and Streaming technologies like Kafka, Flink, Spark, DBT, Airflow, Big Query, and Trino.
• Knowledge/Understanding of Satellite systems and technologies.
• Previous work in business or customer analytics.

Salary range

$121,000.00 - $191,500.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $150,500.00- $225,500.00/ annually.
