Position Description

The Greenberg lab seeks an associate that will play an active role in advancing a research program focused on developing animal models to investigate the role of neuronal activity-regulated gene expression in human brain evolution. The associate will contribute to the design and execution of experimental strategies as part of a collaborative, multi-institutional team, while also independently leading behavioral and neural data analyses.

The associate will be responsible for

• Designing, executing, and analyzing behavioral, cognitive, physiological, and neural experiments
• Integrating and annotating multimodal datasets to support computational modeling and neural network training
• Conducting molecular biology experiments, including RT-PCR, qPCR, molecular cloning, and bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing library preparation and quality control
• Developing and maintaining animal models, including genotyping, perfusion, tissue processing, RNA in situ hybridization, and immunohistochemistry
• Designing and performing stereotactic surgeries to deliver viral constructs for targeted genetic manipulation and downstream behavioral analysis
• Maintaining and engineering cell-based assay systems, including cell line culture and transfection
• Interpreting experimental results and contributing to figure generation, manuscript preparation, and presentation of findings

Our laboratory has an excellent track record in training young scientists. This position is ideal for highly organized, motivated and hard-working individuals seeking a mentored but intellectually engaged research experience with increasing ownership over experimental direction. The individual will contribute to both ongoing projects and the development of new experimental approaches. The successful candidate should have a flexible schedule, as this job will sometimes require working on weekends.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelors degree in neuroscience, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics or similar field

Additional Qualifications

• Prior experience working with large animal models, including working with veterinary staff, habituation routines and protocol management
• Prior experience in experimental design and independent execution of research studies.
• Involvement in hypothesis-driven research and data interpretation.

Expected Dates:

Salary Range

$55,000 - $62,500 commensurate with experience
