POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for assisting in the overall maintenance and upkeep of the YMCA facilities to ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment for members, children, staff, and visitors. This role performs a variety of tasks, including basic repairs, preventative maintenance, light housekeeping duties, and assisting with pool maintenance under the guidance of maintenance staff. The ideal candidate will be reliable, detail-oriented, and possess a willingness to learn and contribute to a positive and welcoming atmosphere at the YMCA.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist maintenance staff with basic repairs to buildings and equipment, including but not limited to minor plumbing repairs (e.g., unclogging drains, fixing leaks), minor electrical repairs (e.g., changing light bulbs, replacing outlets), and general carpentry (e.g., fixing door hinges, assembling furniture).
- Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks as assigned, such as lubricating equipment, checking fluid levels, and inspecting safety devices.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of equipment and spaces for programs and events.
- Respond to and resolve basic maintenance requests in a timely and efficient manner.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed as directed.
- When needed rerform light housekeeping duties in assigned areas, including but not limited to vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting, emptying trash, and cleaning restrooms.
- Assist certified pool operators with routine pool maintenance tasks under direct supervision. This may include testing and adjusting pool chemical levels (after proper training and certification, if required by local regulations). Assist with cleaning the pool deck, skimmers, and filters.
- Monitor pool equipment for proper operation and report any issues to applicable Leadership Staff.
- Adhere to all YMCA safety guidelines and procedures.
- Report any unsafe conditions or potential hazards immediately to supervisor.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific tasks.
- Follow proper procedures for handling and disposing of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
- Other Duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous general maintenance or handyman experience preferred
- Willingness to learn basic maintenance and repair techniques
- Ability to follow instructions and work under supervision

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand or reach for extended periods of times, move around the work environment independently, push, pull or lift up to 50 pounds for short periods of time. Employee is exposed to noise and fluctuating temperatures.
