Overview

This position's work location is fully remote with the ocassional time onsite as needed. The selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

The Grants Management Officer II, Post-Award oversees post-award administration for an assigned portfolio of sponsored research awards that may include clinical trials and independently manages more complex post-award activities. Responsibilities include financial monitoring, sponsor compliance, documentation, and coordination with investigators, department research administrators, Research Accounting, and other institutional stakeholders.

This role reviews and interprets federal and state regulations, supports institutional post-award policies, and works with departments to collect required compliance documents for account activation in InfoEd. The position also manages incoming Federal Notices of Award, drafts FDP non-clinical subawards, processes prior approvals and amendments, and maintains complete documentation and communications records.

As the primary post-award contact, the Grants Management Officer II supports financial oversight, reporting, and award closeout while helping protect the Institute from noncompliance with sponsor and institutional requirements. The role also serves as a resource to educate staff on sponsored research, especially post-award processes. In addition, this position is part of a team that fosters a culture of continuous learning and openness to change. By maintaining a strong focus on both operational excellence and team development, the Grants Management Officer II, Post-Award plays a critical role in advancing DFCI’s research mission.

  • Work with investigators and department administrators in the development and submission of grant and contract applications
  • Review administrative sections of grant and contract applications for completeness, accuracy and compliance with DFCI and sponsor policies and procedures. For example: signature approvals, human and/or animal regulations, budget restrictions, and subcontract guidelines
  • Review grant applications budgets with a primary focus toward testing that appropriate fringe benefit, indirect cost, and shared service rates are used
  • Negotiate award terms with sponsors, maximizing benefits to DFCI
  • Prepare and negotiate subcontract agreements for those awards that contain projects outside DFCI, assuring that agreements include all necessary provisions to allow for compliance with DFCI and sponsor policies and procedures
  • Work with administrators, investigators and finance in the resolution of budgetary problems, making sure that any resolutions are in compliance with sponsor and DFCI guidelines

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Maintains knowledge base on changing regulations and technologies used in Federal and Non-Federal grant applications
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting theories, principles, methods, practices and terminology
  • Has knowledge of state and federal grants procedures and reports
  • Applies fundamentals of budgeting and accounting to grant administration

MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The role requires a BS/BA degree
  • 7+ years of experience in post-award grants management

Performs primary duties as above and has progressed to performing more advanced skillsets as directed. This level is responsible for a higher volume of workload distributed; an increase in the independence of daily assignments; special project relating to policy review and redesign will also be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grants Management Administrators will provide functional supervision or training to office staff and department grants management specialist. May provide work direction to office support staff and students.

Pay Transparency Statement

The hiring range is based on market pay structures, with individual salaries determined by factors such as business needs, market conditions, internal equity, and based on the candidate’s relevant experience, skills and qualifications.

For union positions, the pay range is determined by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
