Job Description:
Biology I (cells and molecules), Adjunct Faculty Pool
Adjunct positions are an "Open Pool" for the upcoming Fall 2026 semester. There may or may not be available openings at this time, however, when an opening does occur, the hiring manager will draw from the pool of applicants we have on file on an as needed basis.
Adjunct Instructor positions are part-time, semester-to-semester, non-benefitted MCCC/MTA/DCE unit positions.
SALARY RANGE: $1,512 to $1,826 per credit. Courses can run from one to four credits.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Adjunct faculty responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide instruction in assigned courses using approved instructional modalities, including in- person, hybrid, online, or other non-traditional learning modes.
- Conducts lecture and laboratory sessions.
- Prepare course materials and maintain a current course syllabus consistent with departmental and College requirements.
- Utilize the College's designated learning management system (LMS), including posting syllabi and instructional materials as required.
- Assess student learning and performance through assignments, exams, projects, discussions, and other evaluative methods.
- Maintain accurate academic records and submit grades and required reports in a timely manner.
- Communicate regularly with students and be reasonably available for student consultation by appointment.
- Verify enrollment and complete required reporting in accordance with federal, state, and College requirements.
- Attend required faculty meetings and mandatory trainings as assigned.
- Adhere to College policies, procedures, and academic standards.
- Maintain professional and respectful interactions with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Support the College's commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and student success.
COURSE AND INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Adjunct faculty are expected to:
- Develop and maintain instructional materials appropriate to the course curriculum.
- Include required syllabus components such as course objectives, grading criteria, attendance expectations, and student learning outcomes.
- Select textbooks and instructional materials consistent with departmental practices and College procedures.
Requirements:
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Master's degree in Biology, or closely related field;
- Demonstrated successful experience working with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, with a range of academic abilities;
- Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year of successful experience teaching biology courses at the college level;
- Evidence of successful teaching experience in a community college; and
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in and outside of the classroom.
BACKGROUND CHECK : Finalist candidates who are otherwise qualified for the position will be required to complete a Massachusetts Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check as a condition of employment in accordance with GCC's CORI policy .
