Education Director

Greenagers
Egremont, MA

Position Posting – Education Director (FT)

Organization Overview

MISSION: Greenagers works to inspire children and young adults to develop deep connections to land, work, and community. We prepare youth for success in work and life by offering paid jobs and education in the areas of conservation, sustainable farming, and related trades.

VISION: Greenagers envisions a culture of community where young people work together to restore forests and fields, grow food, and build spaces that support natural systems and sustainability.

To realize this vision, we work to get young people outside; working with their hands; talking to each other and their elders; listening, leading, and learning. We believe that this work is foundational and the heart of a culture that values education, stewardship, and community.

Based in Egremont, Massachusetts, Greenagers has grown significantly over the past few years. April Hill Conservation and Education Center serves as our home base and as a community and educational resource. As our programs continue to grow, we seek a dedicated Education Director who will bring creativity, organization, and leadership to our Education Department.

Position Overview

The Education Director holds the vision and oversight for Greenagers educational initiatives, including school-based programs, summer programs, and service-learning/experiential learning opportunities. This role works in community with local public schools and partner organizations to further the vision and mission of Greenagers and support all local youth.

The Education Director develops and sustains the training, resources, and support systems necessary for staff to deliver educational experiences that foster personal growth, environmental stewardship, and community engagement among youth ages 11–21. Working collaboratively with Greenagers’ Conservation, Farm, and Trades teams, partner schools, and community organizations, the Education Director strengthens program quality and cohesion across departments. They also lead the development of summer programming, workshops, and events at April Hill and other program sites.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead curriculum design, program planning, and logistical coordination for Education programs.
  • Recruit, hire, and supervise educators for after-school and in-school programming and cultivate a mutually supportive team that regularly works to improve team cohesion, social-emotional learning for students and staff, and cultivates a joyful approach.
  • Foster strong, ongoing partnerships with schools, districts, and community organizations; serve as the primary liaison with administrators and teachers to ensure programming is aligned with educational standards.
  • Manage program registrations, budgets, track expenses, and coordinate billing and reimbursements in partnership with the Business Director.
  • Expand program reach—both geographically and demographically—through strategic partnership-building and outreach.
  • Communicate regularly with families where applicable to ensure engagement and transparency regarding activities, events, and field experiences.
  • Lead or coordinate community workshops, volunteer events, and youth programming at April Hill.
  • Collaborate across departments to align programming with Greenagers’ broader organizational goals and initiatives.
  • Represent Greenagers at local and regional outreach events, strengthening relationships with schools, partner organizations, and families while promoting the organization’s mission.

The Education Director must care deeply about positive youth development and experiential learning. The Director applies these frameworks program design and training, ensuring that educators are equipped to address the diverse needs of youth participants. The Director also has lot of freedom in how these programs are developed and is free to incorporate creative and diverse approaches to the work and culture of the program.
