About the Role:

The Outside Sales Representative at Finetco plays a critical role in driving the company's growth within the retail trade industry by establishing and nurturing strong relationships with customers. This position focuses on identifying new business opportunities, understanding client needs, and providing tailored solutions to meet those needs effectively. The representative will be responsible for managing a designated territory, ensuring customer satisfaction, and achieving sales targets through proactive outreach and follow-up. Success in this role requires a deep understanding of the lumber and building materials market, combined with excellent communication and negotiation skills. Ultimately, the Outside Sales Representative will contribute significantly to expanding Coventry Lumber's market presence and revenue by delivering exceptional service and value to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Seek out prospective customers/business opportunities with new and existing customers.
  • Establish and maintain customer relationships to grow profitable sales.
  • Stay current on existing and emerging products and technologies.
  • Introduce and demonstrate new products to assigned accounts.
  • Follow up on all generated quotations to assure that the customer is being serviced and to document the outcome of the proposed solution.
  • Generate profitable sales orders.
  • Report competitive conditions and feedback from customers to management.
  • Maintain ethical, cooperative manufacturer relationships consistent with company image and company/branch goals in the marketplace.
  • Cooperate with qualified suppliers to secure mutual business through joint calls.
  • Attending product training classes to develop product knowledge to handle customer applications.
  • Develop an effective and productive working relationship with Inside Sales Associates, Counter Sales Associates, and support personnel; encourages and assists in their training and development when possible.
  • Make personal sales calls at customer sites on a regular basis.
  • Execute sales efforts in an ethical and professional manner, assuring a favorable impression of self and the company.
  • Maintain a professional/working image in self and work environment
  • Complete sales call and expense reports on a timely basis in accordance with company policy.
  • Fulfill customer needs for current literature, catalogs, product pricing, etc.
  • Assist customers with problem-solving, takeoffs, project layout/design, and pricing bills of material and project management.
  • Develop and maintain a sales forecast to help analyze market conditions and/or changes in assigned territory for maximum productivity and sales growth. Implement a sales plan to support sales and profitability goals.
  • Coordinates customer returns and completes proper documentation on a timely basis.

Qualifications

  • Sales or closely related field with three years of relevant sales and industry experience; or equivalent combined education and on-the-job experience.
  • Commitment to and demonstration of high ethical standards governing professional behavior and interactions.
  • Proven proficiency in the use of a personal computer accompanied by a strong aptitude for technical applications.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills.
  • Developed knowledge of the industry within a given market.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and verbal formats, including sales presentations, demonstrated capability to develop strong interpersonal working relationships and work in a team environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • A valid driver’s license and proven safe driving record.
  • Read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, etc.

Skills:

The required and preferred skills are essential for effectively managing customer relationships and driving sales growth. Strong communication skills enable the representative to clearly convey product benefits and negotiate favorable terms. Proficiency with CRM software and Microsoft Office supports efficient tracking of sales activities and customer data management. Knowledge of the lumber and retail trade industry allows the representative to provide expert advice and tailor solutions to customer needs. Additionally, analytical skills help in interpreting market trends and adjusting sales strategies to maximize opportunities and maintain a competitive edge.
