ASSISTANT ATTORNEY GENERAL- COUNSEL II
Overview
Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Attorney General to join the Fair Labor Division (FLD). The FLD investigates and enforces Massachusetts wage and hour and public construction bidding laws under Chapters 149 and 151 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Enforce violations of Massachusetts labor standards, including non-payment of wages, overtime, minimum wage, child labor, public construction bidding, prevailing wages, labor trafficking, and related statutes.
- Maintain an active case load and prosecute violations in civil, criminal, and administrative proceedings.
- Participate in community engagement initiatives, including public presentations to employers and employees about wage and hour laws.
- Advise the Attorney General’s Office staff and the public on legal matters by interpreting relevant chapters of the Massachusetts General Laws and related regulations.

Boston, New Bedford, or Worcester Regional Office (location based on candidate preference availability).

Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- Admission to the Massachusetts Bar.
- At least three years of full‑time (or equivalent part‑time) professional legal experience.
- Must be Massachusetts Bar eligible at the time of application and apply for admission before the start date. Candidates not yet admitted may be hired as ‘Counsel’ and must pass the Massachusetts Bar within one year of the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
- Legal experience and/or interest in protecting the rights of vulnerable populations and civil enforcement of labor standards.
- Experience in criminal litigation in district and superior courts, including grand jury.
- Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts labor and employment laws and the ability to develop novel legal strategies to combat wage theft.
- Effective communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, or other languages is desirable.
