Controller / Accounting Manager (Real Estate / Property Management)

Salary: $120,000 – $140,000

JMT Staffing Solutions is partnering with a well-established and growing real estate/property management organization to identify an experienced Controller / Accounting Manager . This is a high-impact leadership role overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and key HR-related functions.

This position will manage one Senior Accountant and play a critical role in system improvements, including a transition from QuickBooks Desktop (Pro) to QuickBooks Online.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations across multiple entities, including financial reporting, budgeting, and cash flow analysis
• Manage and mentor one Senior Accountant while ensuring accuracy and efficiency across the function
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
• Lead year-end close and coordinate with external CPA firm for tax preparation
• Analyze financial performance, expenses, and cost controls to support ownership decision-making
• Oversee banking relationships, cash management, and line of credit activity
• Implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies

Systems & Process Improvement

• Lead migration from QuickBooks Pro to QuickBooks Online
• Maintain and optimize accounting systems, including Yardi
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting, workflows, and automation

Property Management Accounting

• Oversee CAM reconciliations, tenant bill-backs, and operating expense allocations
• Ensure accurate invoicing for real estate taxes, utilities, and other recoverable expenses
• Support leasing and tenant financial analysis as needed

HR & Administrative Oversight

• Administer employee benefits programs (health, dental, etc.)
• Manage 401(k)plan coordination and compliance
• Support HR functions including onboarding, employee records, and policy implementation

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of accounting experience, including leadership or management responsibilities
• Prior experience in real estate or property management accounting strongly preferred
• Hands-on experience with:
• QuickBooks Pro (Desktop)
• QuickBooks Online
• Yardi
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and multi-entity accounting
• Advanced Excel skills and strong attention to detail
• Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a lean environment
